I love this! The ads I've seen show the star in a t-shirt, but they don't seem to be commercially available. If I could find them, I'd so buy one.

Strange timing: Just before watching and transcribing this I saw a news story that Aerosmith is considering recruiting a new frontman as Steven Tyler is doing a solo project. They mentioned this followed his fall and the tour cancellation....

House because he walks with that cane
. But the main character from CSI: Miami is Spoiler
Horatio Caine
isn't it? Add that to the fact that I have no effing clue as to what a caduceus is and it gets mucky. I'd still be willing to risk it on Spoiler
House
cuz of the spelling.
Side note: I am such a sucker for advertising. They've been pushing this CSI Trilogy thingy (encompassing Miami, NY and Vegas) and even though I haven't really watched CSI in a long time (I miss William Peterson) they got me to tune in this week. I still learned more medical stuff from Scrubs but this might help more with the serial killer ambition.
Side side note: There was a movie entitled "Jeffrey Dahmer" on TV tonight. It was rated MA.
I chose not to watch.

Oooh okay so that confirms my guess. And I actually do know where that connection comes from. It actually stems from a story in the Bible. I could tell it but that would involve selective spoilering stuff and it's late and I'm lazy and I'd probably tell it wrong anyway so go look it up. It's somewhere in the middle of Numbers, though IIRC that story only has one snake so I'm not sure where the second one came from....

The Bible story basically boils down to this: Spoiler
The Israelites had done something else to piss God off, so he sent a bunch of poisonous snakes into the camp. As a lesson in faith, however, God instructed Moses to erect a staff with a bronze (or brass or whatever) snake. If the Israelites who were getting mutilated looked up at the rod and had faith, then they would be healed.

I dunno. A little pepper, a little garlic a pinch of salt and it might not be too bad. And then ladyfingers for dessert.

It seems that that caduceus--a rod with two snakes--has been confused over the centuries with the Rod of Asclepius--a rod with one snake. Asclepius was the Greek god of medicine, healing, rejuvenation and physicians.

In the November '99 version of Prime Time an early Bored member Mike Feinberg struggled with a question about the caduceus. It was like what animals were on a caduceus?

It came to have that association here in the US in part because it was adopted as the symbol of the Army Medical Corps in 1902. Although the caduceus has been around on Army uniforms well before that to at least the Civil War when enlisted hospital stewards wore a green badge with a caduceus on it.
The symbol more closely and accurately associated with medicine is a staff with a single "snake" and no wings that is the Rod of Asklepius (seen more commonly outside the US such as in the seal of the WHO). Hippocrates was a follower of Asclepius. Although it may have originally been a worm and not a snake. The dracunculus worm would be removed from patients bodies by winding it up on a stick and so it is at least theorized that Greek physicians of the time would advertise their profession by using a picture of the worm wrapped around the stick.
The Public Health Service also used the caduceus as part of their seal in the late 1800's although this might have been more in line with the association of the caduceus with commerce as it was the Merchant Marine Hospital Service at that time and thus had an association with both medicine and commerce.
