Melissa gives the audience a heartfelt “thank you” wave.

Commercial Break (where we see another ad for how you can enter for a chance to get into the Hot Seat via Sprint- but the website has still not been updated).

Melissa brought her mom Vicky (who lives in Iowa) with her. Melissa wants to do something for her husband and kids, but her mom says she must do something for herself. The something Melissa wants to do is Lasik eye surgery so she can stop wearing glasses or contacts.

$5,000 (Classic Films)- What 1917 Charlie Chaplin film includes a famous scene of Chaplin on the deck of a ship, gazing out at the Statue of Liberty?

A- The Great Dictator B- The Immigrant
C- Modern Times D- City Lights

Melissa tries to use the ATE lifeline. Fortunately, there’s enough time for Meredith to warn her she doesn’t have it yet, and at 5 seconds, Melissa uses the PAF lifeline.

Melissa’s PAF crew:

Shaun- Newburgh, IN
Tom- Newburgh, IN
Ronnie- Cadiz, KY

Melissa chooses to call Tom, her “son’s girfriend’s father, and a friend.” (Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from Spaceballs- “I was your father’s brother’s cousin’s former roommate”. But I digress…)

Tom doesn’t know the answer (“That’s an old film”). He is leaning towards The Immigrant, but is not sure.

Spoiler
B- The Immigrant (3)
Now, Melissa has the ATE lifeline.

$7,500 (Theatre)- What famous Shakespeare character’s last words are “Thus with a kiss I die”?

A- Ophelia B- Hamlet
C- Romeo D- Juliet
Spoiler
C- Romeo (25)
Commercial Break
Question to be seen on Monday
$7,500- If Celine Dion sang the vowels in her name in order, she would be singing a refrain from what children’s song?

A- Pop Goes the Weasel B- Three Blind Mice
C- Old MacDonald D- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Melissa would like to get hot pink and purple laptops for her girls.

$10,000 (Botox)- The inspiration for the trademarked term “Botox”, Botulinium toxin is commonly used to treat what?

A- Skin rashes B- Bone fractures
C- Muscle spasms D- Dry eyes

At 12 seconds, Melissa asks the Expert, Tom (let’s see if his medical training comes in handy).

Tom reasons that since it’s a toxin, it may kill whatever causes skin rashes, but he’s not at all confident in that reasoning…won’t even go as high as 50% confident when Melissa asks.

Out of the blue, Melissa goes with C- Muscle spasms.

Spoiler
C- Muscle spasms (9)
HORN

Melissa will return on Monday. The ToT leaderboard is, of course, unchanged. Fred Roberts (guillotine06) still is hanging on in the 10th spot!

Would have liked to find out whether she was leaning towards "muscle spasms" all along and was using the ATE for confirmation, or whether she figured it out while the expert was talking.

Obviously, any medical training DeLay had didn't cover one of the main symptoms of botulism poisoning- which is muscle paralysis.

Also sorry Melissa couldn't make the connection between "The Immigrant" and the "Statue of Liberty" (seems her PAF did, though).

When I saw this question, I didn't think about the Statue of Liberty/Immigrant connection. Instead, I went through Chaplin's filmography and realized the other three were much later in his career. I then thought that this was a pretty tough question for $5,000.

This reminds me of the story about mathematician John Van Neumann. Someone once asked him the question about the cars and the fly (Two cars are 200 miles apart and start driving towards each other, one at 10 mph and one at 30 mph. A fly traveling 50 mph leaves the front bumper of one car and goes to the other then back and forth again until they meet. How far does the fly travel?)

Van Neumann thinks for about five seconds and says 250 miles. The other guy says that's right, because the two cars are going a combined 40 mph and it will take them five hours to meet during which time the fly travels 250 miles. He then tells Van Neumann about the number of people who try to figure out just how far the fly gets when it arrives at the second car and then how far it goes until it gets back and so forth and they get bogged down very quickly.

Van Neumann looked at the guy and said, "that's exactly how I figured the question out."

There have been quite a few Indiana contestants of late.

I blame TDC® for this one. Given more time I think Melissa could have made the connection between "immigrant" and "Statue of Liberty".

Good for her! Botulism toxin is a paralytic (I think), so it would be appropriate for relieving muscle spasms.

I can narrow it down to C and D. I'll have to Double Dip.

A thread that gets replied to gets "bumped" to the top of the list. Someone just wanted to raise the profile of this thread.
