Dead or Alive? Game 24 12/24/07
Identify the following people as either Dead or Alive. Then take a guess at the theme. Some of the folks here are in disguise, as tanstaafl put it one time, so you can earn more bonus points by revealing them. And additional bonus points are available by showing how each person fits the theme. In recognition of the holiday, this game will be kept open until at least Wednesday the 26th at noon Central time. Good luck!

2. Brenda Mae Tarpley
3. Dr. Elmo Shropshire
4. Vaughn Monroe
5. Louis Scaglione
6. Eartha Keith
7. Bob Rivers
8. Michael Barratt

1. Thurl Ravenscroft - DEAD Isn't this Tony the Tiger?
2. Brenda Mae Tarpley - ALIVE Brenda Lee
3. Dr. Elmo Shropshire - ALIVE Okay, going by the theme is this the Elmo and Patsy guy? He was a doctor?
4. Vaughn Monroe - Dead
5. Louis Scaglione - ALIVE
6. Eartha Keith - DEAD I can only think of Eartha Kitt and she fits the theme (as best I can figure it)
7. Bob Rivers - DEAD
8. Michael Barratt - DEAD
9. Willie Nelson - ALIVE
10. David Bowie - ALIVE
I guess they're all associated with Christmas songs in some form or another, except for maybe Tony the Tiger.
Thurl Ravenscroft - The Grinch Song!
Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Elmo (if it's guy) - Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
Vaughn Monroe - Any number of them, I suppose (he was a big band singer)
Louis Scaglione - I have no idea, one of those Italian singers in the 50's I guess
Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby
Bob Rivers - Twisted Christmas parodies - My favourite is I am Santa Claus (to Black Sabbath's Iron Man)
Michael Barratt - NFI
Willie Nelson - Did a whole Christmas album (I have the LP) Pretty Paper
David Bowie - Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby on his tv special
OMG! THURL HIT ME!!!11
Okay, I hope with all this meandering nonsense I managed to get the theme. Ha!

I can only hope so since I don't recognize very many names. Of course if I don't know their alter ego then it seems rather unlikely I would know their true identity either...mrkelley23 wrote:Dead or Alive? Game 24 12/24/07

Only recognize half the list but based mostly on the season, Dr. Elmo, who did "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" (and as far as I know isn't known for much else), with a little help from Ravenscroft in the Grinch cartoon, Kitt, Bowie and no doubt Willie Nelson (although I can't think of a well known Christmas song by him at the moment there must be one) I will guess:
Singers with a notable Christmas Song

2-Alive-Brenda Lee-"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"
3-Alive-part of the Elmo & Patsy duo on "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"
4-Dead-"Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow"
5-Dead-Lou Monte-"Dominick the Donkey"
6-Alive-Eartha Kitt-"Santa Baby"
7-Alive-a number of cd's with Christmas parodies, many quite hilarious, such as The 12 Pains of Christmas"
8-Don't know this dude, at least by THIS name--guessing Dead
9-Alive and smokin'-"Pretty Paper"
10-Alive-"Little Drummer Boy" with Der Bingle.

I can't figure out quite how the scoring worked on this one. Did you give either the time bonus for the theme OR bonuses for naming the songs, but not both?
As an aside I can't believe I put Eartha Kitt as dead, when I know perfectly well that she's alive! I think I got my lines mixed up again. You'd think after the fourth time or so, I could be careful instead of worrying about being fast. Ha!

Nope, I just screwed up the coring on yours. As I now count it, I come up with 20 points for you:
6 for DorA points
5 for theme bonus
2 for correct pseudonyms
7 for song titles (I didn't give anyone a point unless they named a specific song, or, for Bob Rivers, the fact that he did parodies.)
My guess is that I forgot to give you the pseudonym points.
I'll fix it shortly.
Then I'll have to come up with another game for tomorrow, since today's QOD uses the exact same gimmick I was going to use tomorrow -- I kid you not!
