Spoiler
An American Flag question, and one with "silver" as one of the distracters.

Sigh....

You apparently haven't played the online game or haven't seen the questions about how may rows of stars are on the flag. :P

I missed it completely.

Spoilerize as you will, but which contestant won?

The Floridian nurse Ashley Register. I think she is the new all-time game show winner for a Woman, (with $1,795,000). She beat the used car salesman and there was only one question:

What weighs more

A. Gallon Water
B. Gallon Crude Oil
C. Gallon Vegetable Oil
D. All the same

She covered all 4 and he covered B, C, & D. Then he mentioned how oil floats on top of water so he may be wrong.

As the show went on and the editing got a bit tighter it certainly made the game more watchable.
Spoiler
Thought the Gator wrestler/Fireman game was pretty good. They tried to answer questions for the most part with as few chips as possible. I suppose the pressure of the moment and the "one wrong answer and you are done" aspect tended to limit aggressive play but it sure seemed like there were a lot of opportunities to be more agggressive.

Given how far into the show they had gotten before the last game and then when the used car salesman failed to cover the water answer and seeing how late it was in the show I knew he was pretty much doomed. Didn't really care that much who won but it was a shame the final wasn't a little more competitive.

At least this outcome should make SOX, or whatever his name is, happy...

I really liked this show -- it's a shame the ratings haven't been better. If we needed any more proof that quiz shows, as opposed to game shows and unscripted shows, are dead as far as ratings go, this was it.

Excellent finale, I thought, with two cases of Hotseatitis (fireman and car salesman both realizing after lock-in but before reveal that their answers were wrong) and Walhalitis (not really, but that's the closest I can come to the syndrome gator wrestler had, when you're overconfident about your response, and fail to consider all the possibilities of the question).

And as SWMBO pointed out, just imagine if that co-worker (or was it her husband? Don't remember) of the nurse hadn't made that offhand comment about Judge Judy! How much money was that worth.

I loved the reactions of the finalists. They were real, for the most part -- extensions of their personalities and not manufactured for the cameras. Alyson's tears of joy at her victory were obviously genuine. I'd be bawling too, believe me!

Ashley does indeed pass Nancy for the all-time winningest female. She also surpassed David Legler by $30,000 to claim #5 on the all-time US game show winners list.

I completely forgot it was on. My main TiVo was recording The Amazing Race plus all the required bonus time and I forgot to put Duel on the other TiVo.

Oh, well.

Need a duel tuner Tivo! I have two. Not to mention the west coast satellite feed from DirecTV which saved my bacon last night. Normally I record Cold Case as well on Sunday and put the extra time at the end of that. But Cold Case was a repeat and didn't get picked up at all. Fortunately I realized my error in time and was able to record the end of AR using the west coast feed.

A pain when football causes a runover, especially when all the games that day pretty much sucked anyway. They could have cut to Heidi for all I cared at the end of the mind numbingly boring Fish-Pats game. Or at least started 60 Minutes on time.

I have two TiVos. I'm not going to buy another one until I can get HD.

Which I still can't. My apartment complex has DirecTV but it is piped through the buildings like cable. Apparently they have to upgrade the whole system to give us access to HD. I call them about once a month to ask about it. I'm hoping they'll do it just to shut me up.

Oh, and I completely enjoyed the NFL games I was watching yesterday. I was at a bar watching the Lions beat KC which was good. The Colts were winning right next to that and Green Bay was getting crushed on the other side. Even though it was the Bears doing the crushing it was all good.

I went home for the late games and the games being broadcast in Houston were the NE-Miami and SF-TB games. Both were meaningless to me so I read a book.

I had the same problem with TAR but wasn't home and had no West Coast feed anyway. Duel I got.

It's going to take a while, not only is a new dish required, but the cables have to be upgraded. :(

Does the winner get the whole amount or is it an annuity?

It was an awfully disappointing finale for me. Here we have one of the largest jackpots in TV history--guaranteed to go to someone--and the winner had no clue on the final question, winning only because her opponent made a dreadful mistake.

Ah, but one of the things we (OK, I) always say is that it's just as important to know what you don't know. Mr. Holler, KY didn't know he didn't know what he didn't know until it was too late. Which means Ms. NurseGator, who DID know she didn't know what she didn't know, and covered all of her bases, proved that she was indeed the better player. That's all you need sometimes.

In J!, we've seen dozens...maybe hundreds... of times a player winning the game when all three players missed the Final J!. It doesn't mean that the winner didn't deserve to win, just that if he or she bet right, that's all it took. Sure, the money is less, but there's no reason Brad Rutter couldn't have won that way in the UTOC. It's part of the game.

You mean a dreadful mistake like, say, Bill Buckner or Scott Norwood made.....

[Pause for some quick Google searches.]

Oh.

Since they're sports references, no, I definitely didn not mean like that! :P

And I do understand that taking advantage of the other team's mistakes is a major part of many different games. But Ken and Brad had to demonstrate a lot more skill to reach the UTOC than any contestant did here in Duel. (I imagine that's true for teams that reach the Superbowl or World Series, too.) Here, the caliber of the competition was more akin to that on 5th Grader, but with the guarantee that one of them gets the jackpot.

Meh.

I just watched this this morning. I was amazed and disappointed - as I am sure the guy from the holler was.

I want someone to write a book about men making arrogant and wrong decisions that cost them big time.

blah is what I say.

Yeah - like I am going to have anything to do with that moron.

I still feel sorry for MrHollerMan - he was crying. It was sad for him.
