Tony calls Gary, spelling hyoglossus while reading the question.

Gary: Okay, what were--what were the choices again?

Tony: Nostril, eyelid, tongue, forehead. Ten seconds!

Gary: Okay. I believe it's tongue. 99% sure of that. I should know this, being a person who teaches Latin and Greek.

Answer
C: Tongue ( 32 )
-- Commercial Break --

Tony is up to $50,000. We take a look at the leader board, to see if that's enough to get him up there.

Tournament of Ten Leader Board

1. Jehan Shamsid-Dean $250,000 - 2:09
2. Keilani Goggins $100,000 - 1:53
3. Jeff Birt $100,000 - 1:53
4. Matt Schultz $100,000 - 2:26
5. Tim Janus $100,000 - 2:44
6. Ralph Cambeis $50,000 - 1:13
7. Robin Schwartz $50,000 - 1:40
8. Alex Ortiz $50,000 - 2:19
9. Fred Roberts $50,000 - 2:27
10. Benny Shum $50,000 - 2:29

There are a lot of people with $50,000, so it would come down to time. Meredith does not mention what Tony's time has been, so far.

Times are tough for Tony's family. His hours have been cut back and his wife's hours have been cut back. His son is in college and Tony had to tell him that he could no longer pay for his son's college. It was hard, telling him that. His son is on his own now, at 21, paying for it, himself.

$100,000 * Network News
Since 2007, what Oscar-winning actor has introduced Brian Williams as the announcer of "NBC Nightly News"?

A: Michael Douglas B: Kevin Spacey
C: Jeremy Irons D: Dustin Hoffman

With 35 seconds left, Tony decides to Ask The Expert. Meredith tells him this is a really big question for Tony.

Ken: No pressure. [pause] I remember when this happened. [pause] And I'm pretty sure--and I'm risking $100,000 of your money--but I'm pretty sure it's Michael Douglas.

Tony: What kind of percentage are we talking, Ken?

Ken: That's a good question to ask, Tony. I would say I'm 75-80% sure it's Michael Douglas. I remember reading a news story when it happened, outing Michael Douglas as the announcer. So, I'm feeling pretty good about that.

Tony: Well, Ken, thank you. I hope--we'll see how it turns out.

Ken: Okay!

Tony says that 75-80% from Ken is pretty strong, but that's a lot of money and he's not a big risk taker. Tony walks with $50,000.

Answer
A: Michael Douglas ( 5 )
They show the leader board, again, and Tony has made it to eighth place!

Stephanie Girardi, the first woman to make $500,000 on PTBAM, mentioned on the air that it was her dream to have a pergola; in her banter with Regis, they spent a lot of time getting him to pronounce it properly.

I cannot believe this guy walked away despite the fact that KJ was 75-80% sure. I knew the answer to this question before the choices even came up. Its too bad he couldn't double his money. Hopefully he'll win the million in the tournament.

I agree.....a 75-80% sure from Ken Jennings is a lot more reliable than a 75-80% from any other run-of-the-mill celeb. I probably would have gone for it as well. But I guess now he's in a decent position for the ToT.

Unless he was keeping track of his own time, he was taking a gamble doing that.

PS I would have played this stack exactly the way he played it...although I may have not used the DD on the "Coffee Bucks" question- I've seen 30 Rock enough times to be reasonably certain it was not right.

But I would have gone with Ken...I had no idea of this one...I don't watch NBC News...when did this happen?

Meredith made a big deal about this but I gotta figure most of them were intentional.

Maybe the show could employ a naked expert. Not Ken, though. He's too dignified for that.

It's a kind of gazebo.

As Meredith said, that one was basically handed to Tony. His comment was that Meredith likes to trick people. But not at this level.

No idea (I don't watch any of those shows) so I'd use ATA also. With that dismal result it would be time to go with PAF.

Me, too! Well, not D&D since that wasn't out until well after I graduated.

That's why I knew it - "glossa" is the Greek word for "tongue".

I don't know this, and all I have left are DD and ATE, so I go with ATE. Then it all comes down to whether I'm willing to take the risk with KJ's answer. Like Tony I'm a risk-averse person so I probably would have walked away also.

I occasionally watch "The Office" and "30 Rock". I don't recall either of them having a "Coffee Bucks". I've never watched "Scrubs" or "Ugly Betty". I'll ask the audience... and then throw out some censored words after seeing the audience's response. So that would force me to Double Dip as well. B goes in first since it came in slightly higher.

The Greek is paying off this time. "Glossa" means word or tongue. I called this one before the choices came up.

I hardly ever watch Brian Williams. However, I can hear the intro in my head. I can eliminate Irons for sure. My hunch was Hoffman, but I'll go to KJ. Since he's more confident about Douglas than I am about Hoffman, I'll go with his answer.

The natural side effect of casting contestants for their economic need stories is that they won't take risks. And Tony nearly burnt a lifeline on the Dan Quayle question!

Tony might get his $1 million question right, but with at least seven contestants ahead of him in the tournament, it's unlikely that he'll get to keep that money. :|

Hmmmm. My daily Google News search for "who wants to be a millionaire" has turned up three websites, including one in South Africa and one in New Zealand, already referring to this question. I'm not sure what's so fascinating about this particular question to make it go viral, like that several-season-old YouTube clip of Meredith playing the cougar with that Navy man.

Here's an article about Tony's appearance. His college-age son isn't the only one he wants to put through school.

http://www.indystar.com/article/2009102 ... appearance
Married and the father of four, he'll use his winnings to pay bills and start college education funds for his children. The money will come in handy because his work hours have been cut, and he was unsure how the family would pay its bills and for the college fund.
