To my surprise, I realize that Will Ferrell apparently has based the character of Buddy, the elf of the title, on Annie.

Both the character and the brownhound to a remarkable degree are similarly happy, enthusiastic, polite, honest, eager, sensitive, slow to anger, and long-legged, with a tendency when excited to run into traffic.
