Since Kazoo is right on my tail in the weekly post count standings I'll point out that there is a @#$% math question in this stack. From reading the transcript it looked like a TDC lifeline for the contestant who was struggling to subtract 1865 from 1945.

.

I think it would be easier to add 100 to the end of the Civil War.....1865-1965...nope...maybe 80 years....yup that's 1945.

That's how I would have done it, too.

Yes, there was math, but if one knew the dates, I don't think the subtraction was beyond the level of the question. I didn't try transcribing everything that Linda was mumbling under her breath, but I thought at one point that she mentioned the year 1947. That would not have been helpful.

I think it is somewhat vexing that a school teacher would not know the time difference between the end of the Civil War and the end of WWII, or that she would not know that Budapest which is in Hungary) is on the Danube. Basic history (with a sprinkling of basic arithmetic, not math) and basic geography. It's not like having to know how long the Hundred Years War actually lasted or the name of the river on which Prague lies. My third grade teacher would have known these.

$15K: Never heard of Kenneth Feinberg. PAF.

Some third graders might have known it as well.

I think the Hundred Years' War lasted fom 1337 to 1453 (116 years)- I seem to remember that being a trivia question here or on some other board I've been on recently.

I'd have to look up the river Prague is on- don't know that one (edit- Vltava).

Spoiler
Evil, evil question! Implies that the authors of both novels are the same, or at least it did to me. Wrong! Requires some trivial knowledge about the creation of a book that is not one of the mainstream, English class novels. Nasty distractors which also include pirates or similar behavior as main characters. IMO, this is undervalued even at a quarter-million.

Nice to see that someone gets that far, though.

Spoiler
I agree it can be implied that Robert louis Stevenson is the author of the novel in question, but I disagree it's undervalued. It's a true trivia question, as questions at this value should be.

Also, none of the works listed are by Stevenson himself, as anyone who can reach this level might be expected to know.

It is somewhat nasty, but I wouldn't say it's overvalued. Certainly, not by Syndie-BAM standards.

At any rate, JTTCOTE was written about 20 years too early, and The Scarlet Pimpernel about 20 or so years too late. Double Dip if you have it.

I wonder if TDC hadn't been involved if Linda could have come up with it.

At least Rene isn't misleading contestants with false confidence. OTOH it's a shame that Linda burned a lifeline when she didn't need to. That's two, and both attributable to TDC.

Well if TPTB were concerned about PAFs Googling, here's proof that some (I'd say most) aren't.
