I need to share this with you all...

#1 Post by fuzzywuzzy » Fri Dec 21, 2007 6:38 pm

I went shopping today for an ornament for my Mom...its a tradition that I get her an ornament every year. She has a Chrysler Mini Van. I put it in park, and put on the parking break. The store that I was visiting is a Mom & Pop home improvement store. Our family has been going there for years.

I made my purchase, and got into the van. I turned on the ignition, then tried to release the parking break. In her van, you need to pull a release to undo the parking break, and I couldn't see the release. So, I open the door, step out of the van, and release the parking brake...the car is now in motion.

I am being dragged by the van, and trying to stop it from moving. I was yelling for help, and no one came. It was all in slow motion...I was trying to turn the wheel to keep from hitting anything, and by the time I was almost about to hit the christmas tree lot, I jammed the car into park! The van stopped. I stopped! I don't know what kept me holding onto to the wheel. I must be stronger than I think!

Two guys came upto me and asked me if I was ok, and the guy incharge of the Christmas tree lot asked me if I was ok.

I was so upset with myself...I went to my brother's house. I needed to hug my family... my nieces and my sister in-law. When I got home, I hugged my Mom & dad, however, did not tell them what happened!

I am hurting physically right now. I really did a number on my back, and my left knee.

I am not a religous person, however, I DO believe in Angels!

What is the quote... "God protects little children and fools?"...yeah, well, I got half of that covered.

Sometimes our guardian angels do work overtime. Thank goodness you're OK. Vans can be fixed a lot easier than people. If it happens again and no lives are in danger, just let it go.

Take some Motrin, ice that knee and get some rest. You may want to have a doctor take a look as well.

Again, I've VERY glad you're all right.

I'm so glad you are ok. YIKES! Make sure you take plenty of meds tonight. I have a feeling you'll be feeling all of it physically in the AM.

Again I'm glad you are ok.

Jeff and I had a friend in high school, who was wearing a silk dress to a college interview. While parking her car for the interview, she reached out to get a parking ticket and couldn't quite reach. She opened the door and slid out of her car and fell to the ground. The car ran her over and she had to use a cane and a neck brace for half of our senior year.

She is still the only person I know who has run herself over with a car.

I am glad that you are safe and didn't run yourself over. I hope tha you feel better.

Fuzzy, I'm glad your guardian angel is with you. This could have been dreadful. Take it easy, and may your aches and ouchy places be better by morning.

Scary indeed! Glad you got it stopped.

This summer on Kahoolawe, whilst dodging buried munitions, I had stopped the pick up truck I was driving and thought I threw it in park as I slid out the door to grab something in the bed. Instead I put it in reverse and the truck started coming after me! Practically pulled a hammy trying to keep pace with the truck and jump back through the car door to slam it into park.

But it did get the old adrenalin going!
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.

Why is it that you need to put on the parking break on in order to keep the car stopped, just shifting the gear to park in my car keeps it stopped. Well anyway, good thing everything turned out pretty much fine...except for your aches and pains...

The phrase 'better lucky than good' applies, I'd think.

I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt.

As was said above, minivans can be replaced. You can't.

But you get cool points for steering the van and avoiding obstacles while in that predicament. Very skillful!

I had the parking break on, since I was parked on a hill. I always use my parking break when I park my car...just in case. Yeah, I forgot to tell you all that I was also on a hill, therefore the velocity of the mini van was much more than if I was on a flat surface.

UPDATE....

Well, I am not as sore as I could be this am! Thank goodness for that.

I did take the advil last night, and slept pretty well.

However, I am definitely going to visit my chiropractor when I get home to KC.

Happy Saturday to you all...

We are going to see "A Christmas Carol" today at the North Shore Music Theatre. I have never seen their production... it is supposed to be very good.

I didn't get to go see "A Christmas Carol" this evening. All the tickets were sold out. Its ok, I stayed here and baked hermits for my brother, fwh & my Dad! I hope this puts a smile on my brother's face. He is not the most cheery of people. Not saying he has to be, but, hey, its the holidays so lighten up a little dude!

I am still taking advil to relieve the discomfort, but, I am better than I thought I would be.

Mel, did you watch the video yet?

Let me know what you think...good, bad, or indifferent, just curious!

Happy Holidays!

dear kelly knievel --

How did I miss this!!!???

I am so glad that you weren't seriously hurt.

You baked hermits? Like Gene Hackman in Young Frankenstein? or is this a regional thing I am missing?

Yeah, well, I wish I missed it too! I just noticed the other day, that I also brusied my right breast. Must have jammed it against the driver's seat trying to stop my Mom's van. I should have asked fwh, to take a total inventory of my goods (so to speak). 8)

I eventually told my parents what happened. And I realized, I am still afraid of my Mom. I am 46 years old and she still scares the beans outa me! :?

I can't remember what kind that Gene Hackman baked in YF...but my Hermits are cookies with molasses, walnuts & raisans. It is my Aunt's recipe, and my brother ate all 12 hermits himself.

fwh loves them, so I am probably going to make them for him again at home in KC.

When they cook the flatten out like a wider thinner brownie (in shape).
