Yes, she left out the "German-born" phrase and her pronunciation of Leutze (which she also left out on her first reading of the question) didn't make it clear that it was a German name.

I'm surprised they had a "go with the obvious hint" question like this for $50,000. Did anyone on the Bored really know what freaking river the artist used as a model in this painting, before this question came up?

As I recall, Bush also went skydiving on his 75th birthday.

$15K: Never heard of this term. I will also ATA.

$25K: No clue. I'm going to Mo, as well.

$100K: Clearly, a WGAS question. I'll PAF.

$12.5K: Gotta be beans- not 100% sure, but close enough to 100% to go for it.

$15K- I have never heard this term, but I hope I could have reasoned it out in 30 seconds. If not, then ATA to gain time (and they got it right).

$25K- never heard of this case, but "D" is the obvious choice. Hold my breath and go for it.

$50K- did not know the river, but it's a free guess- I'm going with the hints in the question and going for Rhine, knowing that the Loire is in France, the Arno in Italy, and the Ebro in Spain.

$100K- by this time, after those four questions, I would also be a nervous wreck. But it's got to be a perfect PAF question. So PAF- I'm trusting Mo Rocca will be good for any of the three remaining categories.

So- I'm looking at the $250 K with the ATE and DD for sure, and possibly the ATA.

Didn't know the answer before the question, or the artist who painted the picture for that matter, but it does seem that the 50K to me at least often seems easier than 25K and given the artist was clearly described as being German born and the fact that the Rhine was the only German river then I think, well I hope (OK I am sure...), I would have gone for it without wasting multiple lifelines. Or any lifelines for that matter.

Our armchair contestants are amazing. I've seen countless summaries where they have NAC, yet they always choose the correct response as one of their DD options! Uncanny...

It may be uncanny that people always seem to guess correctly from their armchairs, or it may simply mean that people just only want to tell the world when they guess correctly, remaining silent when they guess incorrectly.
One thing I'd like to see more of, is that when people know a WWOQ, especially one worth 250,000 dollars or more, I'd like to know more how they knew that. Like for example, that right whale blowhole question. If you knew the answer, are you a marine biologist? Did you read that off a Snapple label? Just curious....

Well, for me, for this particular question, it's because my son loves anything to do with oceanic life, so I've done a lot of looking up of stuff.

Yup. But that doesn't explain 100% success. It's just interesting how they say they have no clue whatsoever, yet are confidently able to eliminate choices. I wish I knew how they did that...
