If this has become sufficient qualification for the show, that green room is going to be awfully crowded.

As last night's substitute transcriptionist, I have to thank Mo for being much more concise than he was with his rapid-fire ramblings during the prime time show. But would it have killed him to give a direct and rational response to Robin's request for confirmation? I do like that Feed the Birds song--it still can bring a tear to my eye--but it doesn't actually refer to Trafalgar Square, IIRC.

Or should any musical reference to London be interpreted as a "I'm 100% sure of this" response?

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd
He served a dark and vengeful god
He shaved the heads of gentlemen
Who never thereafter were heard of again...

For $50K for some reason I immediately guessed hats, but don't know why. So, in the HS, I would've used a lifeline since I would still have all of them at this point. Not sure which one, perhaps I'd take a chance on the NY audience (ATA probably wouldn't be too valuable above this point) and depending on the response, maybe DD.

NAC on the $100K - time to PAF.

Hey something that I knew having lived in Ireland a number of years ago. And for those interested, Taoiseach is pronounced "teeshock".

I noticed the pronunciation. I had to rewind the tape to hear the pronunciation again, hoping that it might provide a clue to its language of origin. I suspected that it might be a Gaelic pronunciation, but I truly had nothing solid to base that on.

This seems like one of those words that would be easy to spot as Gaelic by looking at the spelling, rather than hearing the word pronounced. For that reason, even more than time, an "expert" might have a better shot at coming up with the answer than a PAF, who would lose additional seconds as the hot seater spelled it letter by letter.

I agree. As soon as I saw the question, I thought it must be Gaelic. --Bob

$250K with three LLs left (only needed ATA for the Pink question).

I knew the $100K from having read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and other William Shirer booksfairly religiously. In several of his books, Shirer recounts Hitler's famous speech that was in response to a letter FDR sent him in 1939, asking him if he would guarantee that he would refrain from attacking of 31 nations that FDR listed in his letter (one of which was Ireland). Hitler gave a mocking reply to FDR in the speech, and Shirer made a big point about how clever it was that Hitler used the Gaelic word when he was talking about Ireland (as a way of pointing out that Ireland probably had more to fear from the UK than Germany).

Trivia knowledge can truly come from anywhere.

I deduced Taoiseach by thinking:

Hmmmm. Taoiseach Walesa? That doesn't ring a bell.

And Conan O'Brein would've made a joke about he title when he was being compared to the Finnish Prime Minister a few years ago.

And every Icelandic word I'm familiar with has either several accents or several Ks. Let's go with Ireland.

From the comfort of my cubicle I guessed the right answer, mostly because of tanstaafl's sig. In the HS, though, I probably would have gone for a lifeline and called a Google PAF.
