Knew the Ascension Day Q-Catholic school again. We would attend Mass on Ascension Day (or the Friday before if it fell on a weekend).

The next one was hard for me. I've heard his name pronounced many ways. It's time to Ask The Expert.

This isn't correct, is it? If so, how in the world could this be a $300 question?
Spoiler
I think "A. Lobster roll" seems more logical.

While I had most of my mind focused on doing the transcribing, the city actually registered in my mind as "Portland, Oregon" for a moment and I had a brief panic attack ("What the heck is that town famous for?") before re-reading the question. Maine! Duh.

The incorrect cut-and-paste took place while I was recovering from that.

That $8K was a ridiculous WWOQ.

I would call it a WFWOQ.

I am definitely thinking they don't want any million-dollar winners fucking up their ToT.

I didn't see anything wrong with it. It's simply asking which syllable of Blagojevich's name is emphasized. --Bob

I'm sorry- that's not easy to figure out in 30 seconds.

I knew it, but that would have stressed me.

I remember the pronunciation primarily from the way Jon Stewart exaggerates it on The Daily Show.

I guess that the "40 days" aspect might make it a math question, so maybe I should cut Kazoo some slack about Ascension Thursday not falling on a weekend. (The Vatican did give permission for it to be celebrated on the Sunday after Ascension Thursday, which is the Sunday before Pentecost.)

"Ascension Day" looked funny to me as I only recall it being known as "Ascension Thursday." The Assumption can fall on any day of the week, maybe Kazoo was thinking of that.

Since we have a new member "supportive mom" I will keep wondering if each contestant's mom is the "supportive mom" here.

Ironic that this episode aired today, when the a-hole former Governor was making the rounds of talk shows promoting his book.

$8K: I didn't read the USA Today that day, so I have no idea what the answer is. A, B, and C all made sense. This looks like a WWOQ®. I don't even know what lifeline would be best here. PAF, maybe?

He was on Bill Press' radio show just a few minutes ago.

I had forgotten just how slimy Blago is.

Complicating the math here is that you have to count Easter Sunday to make 40 days come out on Thursday. Normally, 40 days after Easter would be Friday.

Similarly, Pentecost (50 days after Easter) is only 49 days unless you add Easter Sunday.

OTOH, Lent is 40 days long, but they don't count Sundays. Thus, Easter Sunday is actually 46 days after Ash Wednesday.

You would have to have a special PAF to make this work.

The best bet, in my mind, would be to have the PAF go to Youtube and find a video where they're talking about Blago, and hope to God he/she clicks on one where his name is spoken.

And even THAT might be hard, because they don't even give you the guy's name in the question, so you couldn't even SPELL it. That makes it WORSE.

This question was very undervalued, IMNSHO.

Looks like they made this (optional) change in 1998, so now the Friday situation comes up quite a bit. Depending on when Kazoo graduated, she could have experienced both.

In any event, whether it's Thursday or Sunday, it's not 40 days "after" Easter. I think this makes it a flawed question. Russell should be given a restart at $4k with his ATA restored.

You're not serious, are you?

The number of days is actually quite un-related to getting the question right.

Understanding what event Ascension Day commemorates is far more important.

And he got the question RIGHT, for crying out loud.

Well... maybe I could give the writers the benefit of the doubt. Maybe this question really was a glorified version of "What syllable in stressed in Blagojevich?" Maybe I was focused too much on trying to turn the individual syllables into interjections. "BLUH!" "GOY!" "UH!" They all sound like appropriate interjections for Blago.
