Leslie Salyer
Louisville, KY

Regis shows the clip of Leslie winning the FF on the previous show, and says he thought they were on "Dancing With the Stars." Leslie comments that she thinks they "move pretty well together." Leslie has a "vision board" that she and her mother heard about from watching Oprah. The author of "The Secret" claims that making a board where you envision yourself where you want to be, and using the power of positive thinking, will help you achieve your goals. Leslie was looking at it one day when a commercial came on promoting auditions in her area, and she knew then that she had to audition, and once she passed the test she knew she'd make the hot seat.

Regis: Is it (the vision board) a physical thing?
Leslie: It's a poster board where you put all the things that you want to have happen to you, come to you.
Regis: And you said you wanted to be on "Millionaire," and you wanted to be a winner...
Leslie: ...And I want to own an island called "Leslieland."

Leslie has $8,000 and 3 lifelines remaining (PAF, DD and ATE). Regis introduces tonight's expert, "game show legend, Ken Jennings." Leslie's category tree:

The Cruelest Cut
In the Kitchen
Bad Behavior
Looking Good
The Bad News Bears
Novel Idea
Under the Sea
(Yo, North Korea!)
(FYI)
(Reality TV)
(So Proud of You)
(I Brake for Whales)
(For Eternity)
(Women's Wear)
(Mythical Beasts)

$16,000 (Under the Sea): When fully developed, which of these fish typically has both eyes located on the same side of its head?
A. Trout B. Flounder
C. Cod D. Bass

Leslie has no idea, so she decides to PAF (14). Standing by are her friend Cior, San Francisco, CA; her mom, Diane, Louisville, KY; and her brother-in-law Norm, La Grange, KY. Leslie calls on Cior. She reads the question and answers quickly (22), and Cior says, "OK..." and then presumably tries to search for the answer on the internet. At 10 and 4 seconds, Leslie prompts, and Cior blurts out that she thinks it's

a bass
as time runs out. Leslie says she'll use the DD (10), and makes

D. Bass
her first answer. It's incorrect, so as the clock starts again, Leslie makes

A. Trout
her final answer, and leaves with $1,000.
Spoiler
B. Flounder (6)

I didn't even need the choices. I knew flounder immediately.

And she... just floundered.

Well, then, you're lucky that sole or halibut weren't there instead of flounder...

Not at $16K, those wouldn't be there.

And, as it turned out, flounder was difficult enough...

I don't get your point. Why couldn't flounder have been replaced by either sole or halibut on a $16k question? They're all very common and all have the same migratory eye deal...

Flounder is the one the most people remember, that's why.

Oh. I wouldn't presume to speak for most people...

And this particular contestant may have gotten it, if she weren't confused by Flounder in "The Little Mermaid."

Well- I only have a small sample size, but there were eight people in my house- all 8 of us said "flounder" before the choices came up.
