Would have going for $25K with all four lifelines.

At the risk of sounding like Kazoo, those were some easy questions. I don't know if a third grader could know them.

I was a little tripped up at the Foie Gras Wars question, as I think of foie gras as goose livers, but I would have gone with the only bird there.

TDC cost this guy his PAF. Just another reason to hate it.

Anthony would be a great contestant to listen to without TDC. He has been funny and upbeat.

Unfortunately I missed the 'point' of the Are You Smarter 1K question the first time I read it and was like gosh, they are all bird-related names. At this point Regis would say "Three seconds!" and I say Ask the audience! stopping the clock with one or two seconds left.

When I read it a second or third time it hit me just like it hit the contestant. D'oh! Another clock lifeline for me. Then again, that was kind of the panicked way I played the first five questions and I did not face a clock.

Yeah, well, Anthony could have ATA'd, instead of burning his PAF, if he hadn't ATA'd on the igloo question.

I didn't get the impression that he was spooked by the clock, as somebody else suggested. It seemed to me to be a blatant waste of a LL, which is baffling to me. If the clock was an issue, he should have gone with the audience. Very weird....

As mentioned, he had already used his ATA on the $300 igloo question.

But he was happy to be there, and that's more important than his gameplay . . .

Seriously?????

WTF?????

Yes, I can see where the temperatures of South Africa, Costa Rica and Spain would make it difficult to determine where there would be enough snow to make an Igloo

My vote is definitely to blame the clock. I really don't think he set out to make some sort of absurd mid-stack John Carpenter move, a la Austin Powers at the Blackjack table. :-) (obligatory youtube link)

Like others have referenced, I think his first quick pass through the question and answers left him feeling uncertain, but a few more seconds of thought made it obvious.

Somehow that trademark John Carpenter phone call wouldn't have been the same if he'd called his dad on the $1,000 question . . . :o

According to the article to which Marley linked:
He was doing so well, he decided to call his wife on the $1,000 question just to say this: "Hey babe, I just wanted to call home and tell you I miss you and tell the boys hey."
We have know way of knowing whether or not that was sourced from the contestant or it was the writer's opinion, but Anthony was interviewed for the article.

Based on the glassy eyes, slurred words, inappropriate laughing, bad (and over-repeated) wolf-call and horrible game play, I would have been sure this guy showed up drunk, if I didn't know how well-regulated and sequestered the contestants are before their appearances...

I think he re-read the question and figured out the answer during the time they were calling his wife. I think he knew the answer before he talked to her but not before he called her. He said something like that to Regis.

Similar question, near disaster. I believe Michael Davies even had to send messages to Regis' earpiece about the contestant and TDC.

After the show came back from the commercial break, he said the answer jumped out at him. He didn't say when.

His flight was delayed/canceled the day before due to heavy storms on the east coast. Ended up only getting a couple hours sleep and then finally got rebooked onto a flight that AM. He arrived at the studios by 8:30a, and got into the hotseat around 8:15p. The guy was running on empty.

Hopefully he got a good night's sleep and came back refreshed in tonight's episode.

That sounds more like it. It's too bad he couldn't leave his house dad duties a day or two earlier. But he did have the wherewithal to win the FF.
