ATA on the $8K and hope for the best.

Otherwise, no problems with that stack.

I did not see the show. (Forgot that it even was airing last night.)

Was this contestant at least entertaining or attractive, or was it just another poor performance with a straght-forward stack?

Having seen Julie and Julia over the weekend with Mrs. SSS, I was somewhat surprised that I still had no idea whatsoever what the answer was. If Julia often said this was the secret to a long life, she didn't say it in the movie, and I could have easily talked myself into any one of the four answers (except perhaps French fries and foie gras).

My parents adored Julia Child- they watched her show all the time.

And she said it a lot on her show.

She was typical SyndieBAM casting material: a young, attractive contestant from Where Else, with a celebrity anecdote connected to her job and a story about being terribly afraid of pigeons.

For the $100 question -- Regis and the control room screwed up royally on this, that's for sure.

But, at the same time, the contestant can't sit there like an idiot to wait for Regis to provide the choices. Look at the choices and answer -- don't wait for Regis to prompt you. Michelle, to me, came off as being easily distracted and with a short attention span. She could have also answered that $2K without help if she was able to put two and two together.

I think the audience would have gotten the $8K question without a problem.

For the $25K question, if you know anything about Julia Child, you know about her frequently talking about booze, putting it in her cooking, etc. I would have DD on that question and give the two booze answers as my choices.

JD

Didn't even think about this- another J!-type question with a clue to the answer in the question.

Although I had a question with a clue in the answer like this in the Hot Seat at Play-It! at MGM, and TDC screwed my brain up, causing me to burn my ATA lifeline (question was which is the only hamburger McDonald's sells that's a club sandwich).

But I see she called for ATA at 21 seconds left, so that was probably right after Regis finsihed reading the clues. Can't blame TDC for that one.

an attempt at a multilingual pun, generating a nice ????. :D
I am happy about that :)

The original is "Et in Arcadia ego"

which usually is explained to me as "Even in a beautiful heaven-on-earth, I, Death, am there"

Latin with strict rules on endings of both nouns and verbs allows for wide variety of sentence structure, and IIRC here the classic phrase elides "ego sum" into just "ego".

I am afraid there are of course at least two BB's who will know all the errors I have already made in explanation.

Now, the second plural singular of "to be" in Latin (and directly into French as well, differently pronounced" is "es".
so that maybe IMO replacing "ego" to "es" sorta just changes the meaning from "I am" to "you are".

And capitalized but AFAIK relatively edentulous and I don't know squirrelogy in detail, ES is here on the bored.

Thanks for the explanation.

Now if you can only explain what that pun had to do with the contestant?

More about the stack than about the contestnat, I admit :(

The hot seat is a very very special place, (I am told), and a squirrel with sabre teeth which at least sounds evil, shows up even there.

I thudded in the past, in the present and I'm sure I will in the future.

Even Homer thudded.

I'm just surprised she got called because I remember her walking out of the office from the video taped interview with a grim look and she was like, "I don't think I did well"

So she didn't know what the APs were looking for. She might have thought she came across as nervous and silly, when that's exactly what endeared her to TPTB.

And if she had lost her job before the audition, she had that working for her.

I would have thought she did since she pretty much knew everything about the audition process in terms of the test because she was talking to a couple people what to expect inside, but I guess she was always a bridesmaid, never a bride with the test so didn't know what to look for. I did panic too because I remember when they asked why I wanna be on the show, I remember specifically using the word fanatic somewhere in my speech about I always make time to watch it during breakfast or in between class and I thought, "DAMN! Now I look like a millionaire stalker" but apparently they didnt mind.

By booze, I assume you mean the cognac and gin. I believe it is far more common in French cooking to use red wine. There were 3 choices of alcohol.

I flipped the last 2 holidays; I would have flunked the FF.

$300: Another stupid pun Q, but I knew this one without much deciphering.

2K: Had trouble picturing the commercials, all I've seen of the Ice Age epics, but "acorns" kinda gives it away.

4K: Immediately ruled out Aries & Gemini because of people I know & their birthdays, guessed Capricorn, but with clock ticking would have ATAed "to be sure".

25K: "Pretty sure" of right answer, but would have burned double dip on it.

This is not addressed to ghost, but her mentioning this question reminded me of this.

Why is it that people (here) get all bent out of shape about real movies and real music and whether questions about them constitute valid trivia or not, but no one makes a peep about all the questions they've asked about astrology?

I don't deny that questions about movies and music are valid trivia, but I do have a problem when the slate of questions is heavily balanced in favor of pop culture questions with only a smattering of questions from any other subject.
