Getting a rain check for Christmas just isn't the same. I don't think 'hero' will be in the minds of kids who get a rain check, no matter what that rain check is for. Part of the excitement of Christmas, the memories, and all, are playing with what you got that day.

Indeed. I'm glad my BIL was able to snap up a Wii for MarleysNephew, a couple week ago.

Now they're trying to deal with the Santa issue; they're not certain whether he's still a believer or not. MarleysBIL doesn't want to say this gift comes from Santa.

MarleysNephew is ten, which seems well past the age when he could figure it out. Plus he's at gymnastics practice every day with older teammates who could surely have explained things. But so far, everyone has avoided any direct discussions about the matter.

I was surprised that Annie still seems to believe in Santa. I had been well and thoroughly disabused of that notion sometime during my first grade year. I don't remember exactly how, but I remember distinctly one of my classmates, who had a number of older brothers and sisters, mocking another girl who still believed in Santa. I thought Annie would have picked up some of the talk around school, and maybe she has, and is just not letting us know that she knows.

I am convinced, however, that Molly will believe in Santa until she comes downstairs and sees "Santa" putting together her 200 piece present with instructions poorly translated from Mandarin.

I am guessing that we got lucky.

Wal-Mart advertised them at a lower price via their internet site during early October. We ordered and got the Wii package within a few days.


Of course, we still have been telling the kids that we still have not heard from any of the video game places "where we put our name on a list."

Santa doesn't bring expensive gifts like Wii's in our household.

He is tje guy who provides maybe 3 gifts of around $20 each.

Mom & Dad (and grandparents) get to be the hero.


BTW, the Santa on Wednesday was so smooth in his talks with the kids. He would say, "Oh, yes, I am getting lots of kids asking for "name that toy here". I think that I have made enough," while giving the parent(s) a look to see if that item would be under the tree before guaranteeing it.

One of Emma's classmate's mom was telling me that she couldn't find two special Lego gift sets for him without paying a premium on eBay.

I told her where she could find the gifts. (The Lego Store at Downtown Disney.) She found the gifts and he will probably be very happy.

One of my friends told me a few months ago to start looking for the Wii, because I wouldn't find it at Christmas. I specifically started looking for it and found it the next day at Target.

Moms have to look out for each other.
