Making a one-day appearance (although if there's enough interest, who knows...?) for today is that old Bored favorite, Dead or Alive! (applause)
I still haven't figured out a way to get past seeing everyone else's answers before you post your own, so this edition is strictly for funsies.
For those who don't know the rules, all you have to do to play is guess as to whether the following semi-famous folks are still alive or pushing up the daisies. In addition, for this special episode, you will probably recognize a central theme that holds this issue together. Guess the theme for bonus points, and then, for super-bonus points, rearrange the group into an order that makes sense given the theme. Note that there could be more than one correct answer to this last part, so make sure you specify which order you're using. The order must relate to the theme, though -- no merely placing them in alphabetical order.
As always, no online helps -- just take your best shot! Have fun!

Since we always get the whole thread instead of single messages, I'd suggest that you put a warning with some spoiler space at the bottom of your post, like this.

Chakiris was in West Side Story.

Burl Ives - Dead. We just got "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" from Netflix. Maddie has to do a Maggie monologue.
Martin Balsam - Dead
Louis Gossett, Jr. - Alive, I think
George Chakiris - Alive, I don't know who the heck he is.

Joel Grey - I saw him in Wicked, he was alive.
Martin Landau - - Alive
Alan Arkin - Alive
