QOD Wednesday 12-12 ¡CAN'T SLEEP, CLOWNS WILL EAT ME!

#1 Post by fantine33 » Wed Dec 12, 2007 7:08 am

Tuesday's game is still open through tonight. If you'd like a look at the month's standings so far, it's here:

http://wwtbambored.com/viewtopic.php?t=1655

12/12 Can’t Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me

This one is simple. Rather than a lot of blah, blah describing the song, fun fact, blah, blah, I’ve given you the artist. You give me the song.

1. Everly Brothers

2. Gene Kelly and the Nicholas Brothers

3. Judy Collins

4. Smokey Robinson & the Miracles

5. Moe Bandy

QOD: The Greatest Show on Earth gets derided a lot for being the worst Best Picture Winner ever, but I think it’s one of the greatest movies ever! Jimmy Stewart played a clown with a secret who never removed his makeup. What was his secret ? (Why was he hiding out in the circus)

5 Point Bonus: What was the name of Cornel Wilde’s character in the movie (just a first name won’t do it)?

5 Point Bonus Bonus: Co-star Gloria Grahame also won an Oscar that year, but not for The Greatest Show on Earth. What movie got her the award?

I don't know why this one is giving me nonsense with the quotation marks in the title. If someone knows or can fix it (lb, the sticky guy), please let me know or do so.

It's easy when you don't have to think--you know it, or you don't....

Quotes at the very end of the subject text limit creates funky stuff like that. It even happened on the old Bored....

I couldn't eliminate it, so I just added a bunch of exclamation points....

Huh, I guess my other titles have just been shorter. Damn Wednesday for having so many letters! If I could figure out an upside down exclamation point that could go at the beginning and it could be Viva El Espanol day. Ha!

ARRRRRRRRRRRIBA!!1

I now need one more for 200, I guess I should go score a QOD or something.

PS I was actually watching VH1 Classic yesterday. All day long, it was Rock Fest. I got More than a Feeling, Dancing with Myself and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap in a row. Can't beat that with a stick.

Wiki says (and my recollection is) that Cole Porter wrote "Be a Clown" first, then Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown wrote "Make 'em Laugh." There is a story afoot that Freed/Brown got tacit permission from Porter to swipe the song, but there's no confirmation of that.

Thanks for the points. This makes up for goofing up the Final J! answer last night.
