Hey, they can't all have clever titles! I know, I know, like any of them have been that clever so far. Ha! Both weekend QODs will be open until Midnight Mountain tonight.
12/10 BIRTHSTONES
There are a lot of different birthstone designations, but I am looking for the modern birthstone for each month, as established by the ANRJA in 1912.
1. February
2. October
3. August
4. January
5. May
QOD: In 2002, a stone was added to the official birthstone list, for the first time since Citrine was added in 1938. What is this stone?
5 Point Bonus: What is the designated month for said stone?
5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sapphires come in all the colours of the rainbow, except one. What is it and why?

Wasn't there a question like this on Millionaire? I'll guess it might be red, because that would be a ruby.

1. February - Amethyst
2. October - Both opal and pink tourmaline, two of my favorites even though it isn't my birth month. I have both in my little rock collection from years ago. I particularly like watermelon tourmaline.
3. August - Citrine? Not sure this is right since it is noted below. I know July and September (which end up being part of the bonus!) but drawing a blank on August.
4. January - Garnet, another in my little rock collection. Have dug up more than a few garnets over the years.
5. May - Emerald, my favorite even though it is not my birth month either since green is my favorite color.
QOD: In 2002, a stone was added to the official birthstone list, for the first time since Citrine was added in 1938. What is this stone?
I dunno
5 Point Bonus: What is the designated month for said stone?
I dunno, part deux.
5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sapphires come in all the colours of the rainbow, except one. What is it and why?
A red sapphire is a ruby. It is still the same base stone, corundum, but not called a sapphire.

1. I forget.
2. Opal
3. Peridot
4. Garnet
5. Emerald
QoD. Tanzanite. I've watched Home Shopping.
Bonus. I don't know. I don't watch it very often.
Bonus bonus. Red, because if it were red, it would be called a ruby. It's the same mineral, I think -- a corundum or something like that.

. February = Amethyst
2. October = Opal
3. August = Ruby
4. January = Garnet
5. May = Emerald
QOD: Pass Pass Pass
5 Point Bonus: Beats me
5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sapphires come in all the colours of the rainbow, except one. What is it and why? Well, actually, they do come in all colors, but I think that what you are getting at is that a 'red' sapphire is not called a 'sapphire,' it is called a 'ruby.' So it is nomenclature rather than gemology.

Back when I was on that other (non-BAM) show, I memorized all of these. Unfortunately, that was over 2 1/2 years ago, and I've forgotten most of them. Fortuanately, I was just talking about the list not too long ago, for pub-quiz stuff, so I remember a couple of them (and my own birthstone is on the list, so that's a quick couple of points!).
1. Amythyst
2. Topaz?
3. Saphhire? Probably not, since you mention that one in your bonus bonus...
4. Garnet
5. Emerald (that's the gimme)
QOD: I'll pass, although it's probably either Moisinite or Tanzanite.
Bonus: One in 12 shot... December?
Bonus Bonus: Red, since a red sapphire is known as a ruby.

2. October (my wife's birth month) is Opal.
3. August (my birth month) is Peridot.
No clue on anything else.

There are a lot of different birthstone designations, but I am looking for the modern birthstone for each month, as established by the ANRJA in 1912.
1. February -- WAG pearl
2. October -- opal
3. August -- Being an August baby myself, I'll go with sardonyx; I'm thinking peridot was added later because sardonyx is so dang ugly.
4. January -- amethyst
5. May -- emerald?
QOD: In 2002, a stone was added to the official birthstone list, for the first time since Citrine was added in 1938. What is this stone? -- Dunno. But if it's peridot, I'll just plotz. Tanzanite rings a dim bell, but I got nothin'.
5 Point Bonus: What is the designated month for said stone? -- Given a 1 out of 12 chance, I'll go with December.
5 Point Bonus Bonus: Sapphires come in all the colours of the rainbow, except one. What is it and why? -- red, because then it would be a ruby (either that or "green, because then it would be an emerald")
