George Bush just gave me a Christmas present

#1 Post by earendel » Thu Dec 06, 2007 2:38 pm

He has signed an Executive Order that closes all Federal agencies on Monday, December 24th. That means I won't have to take leave that day. Now if he'll just do the same for New Year's Eve...

"Federal" agencies, damn. I guess that means libraries are still open because they are state buildings. That's for nothing Georgy! :)

I don't want to work on Monday!

He's giving me one, too, but not for about 412 days.

Strange, I can't find anything on that using Google News search.

Thanks, but that doesn't say if it's a bank holiday (which means I get a holiday).

Crap, that means that mail won't be delivered on Monday. That means if you have to send packages, plan on getting it to wherever by the 22nd.

I am betting that there still will be mail delivery on the 24th.

Section 2 of the Executive order speaks of certain employees who still must work b/c of national security and other public need.

Present delivery on the 24th clearly is a public need.

I would guess this is going to cost about $2 billion or so.

I'll still be at work.

Our chief judge has declared this a non-charged leave day so court employees can take the day off without using a vacation day but individual judges can still have court if they want to (or need to) so someone has to be on duty at the library.

The courthouse will be closed so I likely won't see anyone the whole day and I get a "comp" day to make up for it but I'll still be there.

My family Christmas in Indiana is the following weekend so its not that big a deal for me.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Considering that I already have December 24 off work, the EO did bugger all for me.

Yay -- thanks, George! But I still didn't vote for ya.

The patients will be happy -- most of them live far away & would have skipped that day anyway (just as most of them skip the day after Thanksgiving.) I wouldn't want to travel 100 or more miles on Monday, get one treatment, go back home for Christmas, then come back Wednesday for the rest of the week.

I guess I better print up some signs tomorrow :D

Section 2 of the Executive order speaks of certain employees who still must owrk b/c of national security and other public need.
In that case, they may offer to treat those who want to come in, and just have a skeleton staff (2 techs & maybe a nurse.) But I'm sure glad I didn't schedule consults or follow-ups that day.

The Postal Service will not get the 24th off.

Nothing has been announced here yet. One of the techs saw it on the Wash. Post website last night though.

That's the day you don't go pick up cans by the side of the road...
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

True. And I couldn't even take advantage of the perks last night! I was waiting for the dryer to stop, so I wasted an HOUR playing Prison Throw after midnight trying to get 11111 so I could name it Christie'sGus before the scores got too high. But it never came.

I need a life. With better work conditions. That involve sleep....

I can't survive without sleep. If I don't get my 8 hours one day, I'm going to make up for it the next day, or the next, or whenever it comes. I doubt very seriously that my sleep account has ever been in the arrears for more than a couple days...

I was up 26 hours yesterday though since I was unable to fall asleep Wednesday night. I should have no problem with my Friday nap this afternoon....

I would have thought that hour after midnight was a perfect opportunity to get some of that sleep and let the dryer do its own work...
