a calling someone sweetie is so much more satisfying than telling them to bit me.

It's the same thing Suthreners do when we say, "Bless your heart." You can use that phrase anywhere to mitigate whatever mean thing you really said.
All those Sugars and Honeys aren't really so sweet.

So, if I were to say "Pea, sweetie, bite me, bless your heart" it's all good?
