QOD Wednesday 12-05 "REALITY BITES"

#1 Post by fantine33 » Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:11 am

Note: Some people are a little confused about what's penalized or not. Nothing has to be answered, they're all optional.

Quiz questions: Fire at will
QOD: Double or nothing of your quiz points or 10 points if you answer the QOD only.
Bonus: No penalty, no bearing on any other score or answers. You can still answer the bonuses even if you didn't answer any of the other questions.

I hate reality shows. I hate them because all I have to do is watch one episode and, if it's an elimination type show, they've got me for the duration. I guess it's just human nature to have the need to know "what happens next". I also get way too attached to my favourites. Not on the par with the little old ladies who would pummel Susan Lucci in the supermarket with their pocketbooks yelling "you bitch!", but enough so that I get misty when they get kicked off.

REALITY BITES

1. This Survivor shares a name with an actor who co-starred in a tv series with Lorne Greene.

2. I never watched American Idol until I got suckered into watching one of the audition shows in Season 5. I was rooting for the finalist who was eliminated on Queen week. Who was it?

3. My mom’s favourite contestant on the latest Dancing with the Stars was Mel B. What was her “Spice Girl” name?

4. The current host of The Biggest Loser has a long running role on
what long running daytime soap opera?

5. The first winner of America’s Next Top Model has not only made subsequent appearances on at least three different VH1 reality shows, she also managed to bag Peter Brady. Who is she?

QOD: After this Public Enemy hype man appeared on The Surreal Life, he spun it off into two other reality shows, one of which had two spin offs of its own. Who is he?

Five Point Bonus: Name one (and only one) Public Enemy song not titled “Fight the Power”.

Just put me down for zero points today - I have no idea about any of these. I am not a fan of reality shows (with the exception of TAR), so I haven't kept up with who won what when.

I can't even come up with humor points for this. Rack me up a goose egg for today. Waiting for the "Marvel Comics in the 1970's" category, where I can kick some serious butt.
I am about 25% sure of this.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Yeah, me too!
Be careful what you wish for. Because I was considering a comic book/graphic novel topic, but was thinking it might be too narrow. Most everybody will post a zero on at least a few days when you do topic specific questions, but I'm trying not to have too narrow a scope.

People who don't watch reality shows shouldn't just give up without looking. I have never seen several of these shows, but the questions are things I knew just from prior knowledge or reading about it somewhere. Other than the requisite "damn, bitch!" question, most of these can come from knowledge other than reality shows (they could be under Spice Girls or Rap Groups of the 80's categories) or give enough info for guessing (I'm thinking trevor macfee's were guesses just on the other information provided and he got one of them right!).

Well, I did look at the questions, but I'm as clueless about Spice Girls and rap groups of the '80s as I am about reality shows. But hey, no problem - no one can know everything.

No, I don't watch it because I have no interest in watching precocious little brats run around going all Lord of the Flies on each other's ass. If it's not on VH1, I probably don't watch it, except for American Idol, which snagged me into its sweet, sweet grasp of obsession season before last.

But that's not the reason it's not featured. It's not featured because I'm too lazy to look up anything, so I just wrote questions around stuff I already knew, whether I watched the show or not.

In other news:

Woohoo! Peacock got the "damn, bitch!" question right! I was betting on an 0 fer for that one. You must have liked that contestant as well.
