I am totally pumped

#1 Post by Buffacuse » Tue Dec 04, 2007 9:03 pm

Lil' Buff loves trains, and every year he puts together a Santa wish list (yes, he still believes, something at age 12 I count as a gift of Aspergers) of the most unbelievably arcane, impossible to find train stuff you can imagine. This year, 21 items on the list.

21 for 21.

Santa Daddy is friggin' pumped. Never got 'em all before. I can't wait for Christmas.

Love trains. Does he get to ride them much? I'm taking one next week to Atlanta.

Boy, can I relate to this! Rain Man is also 12, and he keeps this little list in his head of things he sees and wants, but doesn't ask for them until Christmas or birthday time. He is really good about not being greedy, but he will ask for stuff that he saw at Epcot, and when I call the Disney Store, they've never heard of it, so I have to find an online retailer and pay about as much in shipping fees as the thing costs. This year, it's the Smack and Yak Remy toy from Ratatouille, which set me back close to 30 bucks for something that fits in the palm of my hand. But his list is pretty short.

And Mini-me (who is 9 and I'm sure doesn't believe but is putting on the show for Mom) asked how Santa could bring a DVD when he doesn't make them in his workshop, and Rain Man answered, "Santa gets them from a store. Duh."

Our kids get to ask for three things that each wants from Santa. This year, Santa got The Boy's gifts done early, but then The Boy changed his mind on an item or two, wanting to change his list from pre-Thanksgiving time.

Ha! I learned that lesson back when my oldest was young. Ya can't shop for Christmas back in the summer when toys are cheap and plentiful. Because they'll want something completely different from what you bought.

I get the general list early so I know what to tell the relatives when they ask, but I'm prepared for last-minute changes. And I'm also good at saying "too late!"

Yeah, we don't tell him too late, but once gifts are purchased, they are purchased (unless we can tell that it is something that he really, really, REALLY wants, and it is not too expensive).

None of the presents were bought during the summer. They were bought probably three weeks ago, but then he saw some new commercials.

I think that he will be excited becuase Santa is putting some science experiment stuff in his stocking (erupting volcano, for example)(as well as the normal toothpaste, toothbrush, pokemon cards, and candy).

Way to go Buff!

All three of my sons love trains too, but my youngest, who's 3, is particularly smitten. He knows by heart every YouTube clip involving trains.

Anything fun on your List of 21 that might be a good thing for me to get for my 3-year-old?
