I got The Call. It was a Tuesday, about 2:00 in the afternoon -- in a classroom filled with students. Dennis heard me tell the kids to "Be quiet please. This is 'Millionaire' on the phone!", and asked me to call back after school, so I grabbed a piece of chalk and scrawled the number on my board. As soon as I hung up, pandemonium erupted. Several of my students ran to other classrooms to spread the news, and it took about 15 minutes to get the 8th grade hall calmed back down.
I flew to NYC on Sunday, taped on Monday, flew home on Tuesday, and was back in the class on Wednesday. Then had to keep the secret for 150 days until my shows aired in May.
BTW, it was also Number One Son's 16th birthday. Which makes him 21 today! He may be 21 years old, and 6'2", but he's still my baby.

How lucky we all are that you got that call.
Your baby can drink legally.

Congratulations on a pair of exciting annniversaries!
But that 150 day delay thing...
In my case, I got the call on Saturday, we flew to New York on Sunday, taped the shows Monday and Tuesday (I carried over from one day to the next), they were broadcast Tuesday and Wednesday (one day delay), and I had my check the following Wednesday-- eleven days from The Call to The Check. And the show had only been announced three weeks before The Call, so it was just 31 days from The First Time I Ever Heard of WWTBAM to The Check. Those were the days...

You are not old enough to have a 21 year old! Happy birthday to your son!
I am glad that you got the call, because if you hadn't, our family probably wouldn't have ever met you and that would be our loss.

Congratulations to you and yours -- and thanks for providing the evidence that teachers belong on game shows.
Unless TPTB don't want to give away money, of course....

Yes, we are all have the benefit of having you as a friend.
Happy birthday to your son, who shares one with me. I've been told my bd gift and Christmas gift will be combined and I have the option of opening it now or waiting until Christmas. Any suggestions on which I should do? I'm leaning towards waiting. Birthdays are no big deal to me.
