Watching Fox blink out before my eyes

#1 Post by ghostjmf » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:52 pm

Well, their TV signal anyway. They haven't broadcast in analog since before Christmas, so so far they're the only station I have to watch either via digital converter box, or on line. Box has worked fine 'til last night. Box is still working fine (except I hate problems caused by its need to contact the parent ship, Dish Network, in order to download a program guide before it will let you watch any shows). For other stations, that is. Suddenly, Fox isn't sending out a strong enough signal to get a digital picture. No matter how I do the antenna dance. Well, eventually I found an OK spot, but if I so much as moved my keys, the signal broke up. Saw last night's House only in patches, & the on line version isn't up for 8 days.

A more-powerful antenna, which I'll get a UHF-only version of after conversion-date, when signals will be UHF only, might help. But it might be that Fox, which reportedly has been laying off staff here in Boston, has also just cut way back on the juice even for digital.

(As far as I know, there were no weird sunspots last night, nor new buildings erected suddenly between my apt & the signal towers, nor fleets of planes flying overhead.)

If this keeps up, I guess I get to watch all my Fox shows on line.
