If you dig magic, and have a half hour to kill...

...you have to watch the video attached to this article by Dick Cavett. I saw this 30 years ago, and I'm still flabbergasted.

I am about 25% sure of this.

I didn't realize he was from NE. Didn't Johnny Carson also start off as a magician?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Interesting. Just saw "The Prestige" on the tube. A decent flick for a rainy afternoon. It would appear that the story of Chung Ling Soo was used as part of the set up for the premise. How they managed to justify wrapping Tesla up in it I am not quite sure (played by none other than David Bowie which somehow seemed appropriate). Tesla was a odd dude to be sure but I don't think he was a big follower of magicians.

Thanks for posting this - I remember watching that episode when it first aired and I have never forgotten that little hand motion that made it look like we caught the cheat (when I say 'we' I'm including myself and Dick Cavett) because we thought we caught him - only to be totally fooled - what a great misdirection. It's funny I still remember that small hand motion from over 30 years ago - prior to reviewing the clip.

It was a nice trip down memory lane.

Thanks again,

---Jay
