Stickiness

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 6:40 am

Do the game threads really need to be stickied?

I know Cal preferred to have his QoD's stickied to make them easier for him to track, but I wonder what our two current Meisters think about this practice, because someone else has to be doing the stickying for them...

Right now, the top of the Bored is a mess, and with LS starting today it would only get worse....

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Rotten eggs?

Too many stickies is annoying.

I vote that they not be stickied.

I'm okay with no stickies. I agree Mondays would get awfully messy when we get all the games running, especially since Fanny and I are running games on the weekends, as well. The threads will be bumped up every time someone answers, so it shouldnt be a big problem.

Then, you'd want the stickies, right?

Why not put the various Bored games in their own forums? That way those who want to play can find them and play, and those that don't won't be bothered by tons of stickies.

Dammit, I WILL be stickied! It's not my fault mrk and traininvain are copycats! Ha!

Seriously, I don't care one way or another, although I do appreciate whoever put my "I f'ed up" message as an announcement. Maybe just put the standings (when we get some) up there since those wouldn't have a new thread each time they're updated? That would just make three (since I think the November stuff can be taken down at this point) and then the three names would be easily found so you could just click on them to see if a game post had been made for that day if it's not on page one.

I don't vote for this idea. I like seeing the thread move up the bored so I can look at the answers and can comment or learn stuff. If they had their own forum, I would forget about it once I answered.

Just speaking personally, I never go to the other forums, so if I were not posting one every day, I wouldn't remember to look for new ones. But everybody's mind might not be as sievelike as mine.

Can html be used in the subject line? If so, we could each have our own colour and use that to make them easy to find.

Let's not get into that debate, again.

The only advantage of making the games sticky is so their meisters (and the players) can always find them on top. But it's not so hard to scroll down the list of threads when they're not on top, really. Particularly since this Bored is all threaded view and not individual post view, games don't overwhelm other discussions and dont' get overwhelmed by them.

Leave the games in the regular Bored Posts forum, unstickied.

Perhaps the solution is to make them temporarily sticky - once the time for answering is past, remove the sticky so that it doesn't continue to stack up.

But then the stickies pile up over the weekend, when games are open longer.

Given how far back one can view threads on the first page of the message list, game threads will rarely, if ever, fall off of the first page while they are still active... thus there really shouldn't be a need to sticky them in the first place....

No need to become sticky, if you really want to find it you can, if you can't find it then you really didn't want to.

Me, I'm for stickiness in regard to current games, and stickied the current ones before seeing this thread. Maybe the mind is going, but, lately, if a game is not right in front of me with big flashing neon arrows I won't notice it.

As for the weekend accumulation of stickies, if the person who stickifies the newest game just destickifies the previous one, open or not, then I don't see a problem. Even I can realize that there are other questions I haven't answered yet if I see one such question.

Therefore, I am being arbitrary & leaving the stickiasation of today's questions for some other beast( :) ) to remove.

I like seeing the open games stickied on top so that I remember to play.

Actually, the word is "stickification".

Just send in the old guy with the broom when the waxy buildup gets too sticky....
