Spring has certainly sprung around here - the temperatures are in the comfortable range even overnight and elwing is trying to determine where to put her upside-down tomato growing rack. The problem is that our back yard doesn't get much sun, so she's got to find the optimum location or else move it from time to time.

Still a 20-degree spring around here. The crocuses are out and the daffodils and tulips are thinking about it, but there are still patches of snow on the ground. Three of our rhododendrons look like they died during the winter, including two of our big ones. No idea why; we give them the food spikes every fall. Maybe it was just too cold for too long. Meanwhile, our ten amaryllis plants will yield at least seven flowers, a record. Those get fed and reside in the basement for the winter. They're still indoors, occupying a table on the sun porch.

We got down to 10 degrees, last night.

The daffodils are coming up, though, and I'm believing that we can get through the rest of Unlocking without any significant snowfalls.

That should be changing very soon. We have wicked storms with a cold front poised to move through today to end our Spring temps....

One of the local weathermen said the next couple weeks are gonna be really active, and he wouldn't be surprised if we didn't some snow before it's all said and done. Given how little snow we've gotten this season, it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't get an early Spring dumping....

We are having winter----still. Expected snow today is 6-12 inches. We have 2 so far and I am expecting lots of co-workers will not make it to work tomorrow. I am thinking our local golf courses will not be ready to open until May 1st. We usually can play in late March or early April.

My daughter in Fargo has been moving stuff from her basement to the upstairs as there will be severe flooding in the Fargo area. I have a hard time believing her home is in danger considering where her home is located but what do I know? All of the Fargo high schools and colleges were closed yesterday and I would assume today also to allow the kids to help with sandbagging.

Yesterday, it was 75 degrees here. I planted impatiens underneath the dogwood tree that's blooming. My CrepeMyrtle tree has leaves on it!

Next weekend, I am planting tomatoes (3 varieties), bell peppers, cucumbers, and squash. The vegetable garden is all ready. It just needs the plants planted in it.

I also have three types of mint in my herb garden. Spearmint, chocolate mint and orange mint along with rosemary, basil and lemongrass.

I am totally jealous. I am not sure when I will be able to plant our garden. Hope by the end of May.

I know I've said this before but in July when we are wilted you will not be sweating your arse off. Mississippi in July and August is brutal.

How old are the amaryllis? Mine stopped blooming after about 5 years. I only had one, and Stephen named it Austria for some reason, but he was like 6 or 7. I love them, and with the wildlife situation all my bulbs have to be indoors in pots, except for the 7,361 or so daffodils we have.....

We have been in the mid 50's and 60's here. I just noticed that the grass is starting to green up so I guess that means it's time to prepare my mower for service.

We had a nasty storm blow through last night and, as usual, our dog went into his trembling act. Which wouldn't have been so bad if it was not at 2 o'clock in the morning. I have discovered something though. I noticed that if I turn on a hall light, he does not have the fear as much and he does not go "digging" into the carpet when the thunder and lightning hit. So, methinks I have found a way to get some sleep when these storms come through in the middle of the night.

Well this is strange. We are actually closing at noon today as are many others. The schools also closed. The problem now will be all the people out trying to pick up their kids and what about the kids that are bused? We have several cars already stuck in our parking lot and I can only imagine what the side streets are like. I can get home even if walking--it is only about 6 blocks, but I would prefer to get my car in the garage. Oh, the joy of shoveling snow the rest of day/night/morning. Margaret better have that pot of chili ready.

Older than five, but not sure of the exact time. We got two or three from my mother, who would get one to bloom about every other year, and bought a couple ourselves. They have thrived with us, and we've had to repot and split up bulbs several times. There are at least ten bulbs going, maybe more. I've lost count. I love those huge blooms.

Nothing explains Nebraska weather better than the fact that, yesterday, the southeastern two-thirds of the state had rain, wind, hail, and tornadoes, while the upper portion of the state got snow, and expects more.

We are supposed to get snow later this week.

It's supposed to be 80 to day. Skies are blue. I think I'll take PCH down to NTN trivia in Newport.

It's cooling off to 70° here tomorrow.

We should be getting our first blizzard tomorrow or Thursday, right on schedule (although sometimes winter waits until April). Couple of feet.

Springtime in the Rockies. Yay.
