Talk of Zim dollars

Got me to editing some of my photos from Zambia and thought I would share a few.

Chillin' out on the edge of Victoria Falls. Good thing it is the dry season...
Zimbabwe is on the left side of the gorge

A birds eye view of the falls with the road from Zambia (at the bottom) across the gorge bridge leading into Zimbabwe and the town of Victoria Falls at the top. We were there at the very end of the dry season. The Zambia side is higher and so it goes completely dry. You can walk out to Livingstone Island in the middle of the falls. In the wet season the entire gorge is a single waterfall that is about a mile wide.

The seat with a view was about here.

Whoa!

That really looks like a pretty complex waterfall! There seems to be a big ditch extending across the bottom of that cliff, which drains through a single outlet below that, which leads to another curving canyon.

Gorge might be a bit more descriptive than ditch! It is about 100 meters deep.

Yes, a bit unusual that this channel carved its way through the middle of the previous falls cliff. But I suppose it is a reflection of where the main channel of the river is. The zigzag canyon is the channel that the Zambezi river has cut over the course of time and has changed as the river cuts through the rock it runs through. At some point the river will cut a new channel, probably at the western edge of the current waterfall and the waterfall will back up again. Probably not anytime soon though...
Massive picture spoilerized to keep screens from getting all "scrolly"!

This is not my picture but a screen shot from Google maps. Not sure how to make it smaller although if you right click on it and click view picture you can see it all on one page. There is a man made channel on the eastern/right/Zambian side that might impact the natural course of things. We stayed at the Zambezi Sun which during the wet season is regularly soaked in the spray from the falls. Not so much in the time I was there. It is also on the grounds of a National Park and most days zebra could be found munching on the hotel lawns. That pretty much ignored the guests.

Sitting on the edge of the falls is one thing. Some people choose to jump off the bridge.

No thanks! I would do it if I had to for something like AR but not going to pay good money to do it.

Of course other activities in the the Zambezi river can be dicey. Like swimming...

If you put it in a "spoiler=" tag (as opposed to the plain spoiler tag), it won't force our screens to get all scrolly unless we open the spoiler. Opening the spoiler will reveal the picture in all its glory. --Bob
