I haveta say:

If you want your medical records, recent real estate etc transactions, etc to be faxed to a common-area fax machine at your place of business, without even a cover sheet appearing that says "Confidential", by all means, do just that. And if you don't, don't. !!!

I cannot figure out why people do this.

No medical records around here, that I've ever seen anyway, but I too am astonished at the real estate transaction detail I've seen. In most cases, it would take about the time of a coffee break to go pick it up in person.

Why not e-mail things? Even my dad knows how to scan and attach and file and e-mail.

I think people will gradually wake up to that, and scanners will become the new faxes.

That's what the installer said when our new fax machine arrived. He sorta hinted that we had just thrown away $300.

My dad even showed me how to use it. I have one at home that I have been afraid of. I just tell people I don't have one, so as not to appear as stoopid as I am.

What with the cost of printer cartridges, email would certainly be cheaper in a lot of cases.
I know at my office, I generally only need a page or two out of the 17 or 18 they fax over to
us. If they would email it to me, I could pick and choose what I need to print.

As to those who fax private stuff to a non-private fax machine, they're just plain not
thinking. It's wide open to anyone who happens to walk by.

Our "most efficient organization" has "refreshed" all of our fax machines and leased copiers. We now have a multi-function machine that scans, copies, faxes, and can e-mail whatever you scan/copy to a recipient.

Because they don't think or they don't care.

Not everybody is insanely private.

At work, all of our copiers have scanners that we can use to send stuff to our computers over the network.

We also upgraded our fax system - we got rid of fax machines and now have some sort of network related deal. I have a private number because I'm the auditor, everyone else shares a few numbers and the faxes get routed through email. Mine are not routed, they're delivered straight into my inbox. It's kind of nice.
