Apple has finally gotten the message that Cut/Copy/Paste is a fundamental function and that people really want to be able to send pictures to others without having to do it via e-mail.

I was just discussing those two weaknesses of the current iPhone with some folks yesterday.

To be released with version 3.0 of the OS, I understand. Apparently tech reviewers aren't too impressed overall - aside from the C&P feature there's not much in this release to be excited about.

Maybe if Wozniak took off his dancing shoes...

The articles I've read have all indicated that this is a great upgrade. And that C/C/P is one of the least significant changes.

While the changes announced are welcomed by iPhone users, "Apple delivered no 'knock-out' blows to competitors with this release," said Avi Greengart, Current Analysis research direction for consumer devices.

Another analyst, Kevin Burden, director of mobile devices research, said that "Even though the iPhone reset the bar for every other mobile phone manufacturer, this version of its OS shows just how much catch-up Apple itself needed to do.

"Cut-and-paste and MMS messaging have been expected functionality — and not just on high-end phones, either."

Push notification (finally!) is definitely a huge improvement and honestly more important to me than cut and paste....

I suspect that the long link is messing up the display for some people. I know that I, for one, would have found it helpful if you had linked to the Business Week article like this. --Bob

It doesn't mess up the display on my screen. Are there formats that can't handle long URLs?

"Messing up" may have been an overstatement, but the long URL doesn't break, so it forces a scroll that I find annoying, particularly since I have to scroll in order to get to the "quote" button. --Bob
