Question about Jeopardy!

I know there are times when it is good strategy to bet zero in Final Jeopardy. What I don't understand is why someone who bets zero will still go to the trouble of writing the answer. All I can think of is that he still wants everyone to know that he knew the answer even if it does not affect his score.
Yesterday someone who bet zero wrote an answer, crossed it out and wrote another answer, and it was still wrong. Why did he bother?

Exactly!
Plus, it draws out the suspense for a couple more seconds, between revealing the answer and the wager. TPTB probably like that.

Some people obsessively keep track of who gets FJ right. Not me; some people.
