I'm not nearly well-versed enough to discuss the ins and outs of dance competitions, so my only comment is how brutal it seems the show is, having lost three people to injuries - two prior to the start of competition and one just hours before the live performance last night. For those who didn't catch it, Steve-o, from Jackass, suffered a back injury during the dress rehearsal of his dance number. He did a flip and landed on his back, right on the mike pack he was wearing. It was enough to keep him out of the competition for the evening, so his score was based on how he and his partner (Lacey) did in the dress rehearsal (which is part of the official rules). Needless to see they didn't score well.

Wasn't like he was going to be competitive anyway. But he lived up to his jackass billing by deliberately trying to do a flip and landing on his back when he knew he had a back injury to start with.

Might save the Woz for one more week which, while he is terrible, is not so bad because he is at least mildly entertaining and really, really seems to want to be there. And Smirnoff ain't bad to look at either, even if she does seem to be nearly perpetually pissed off at something.

I hope the jackass guy isn't out, he's actually pretty good. I like Woz, his enthusiasm is endearing and his absolute joy is fun to watch.

I noticed that, too. To me she seemed pissed at being partnered with an 'early out' guy. It doesn't look good on her.

This is exactly the reason why the answer to the question, "Will Shawn Johnson do some tumbling in her routines" is a reosunding "No!" (even if the rules allowed for it)

She still is thinking about 2012, and she does not want to risk getting hurt. Tumbling in 3+ inch heels is a huge risk.

(She did an interview with some magazine where she effectively dispelled most of the arguments why she is at such an "advantage" in the competition. As it turns out, she can not practice as long as everyone, they have to tone down the routines and outfits, and she essentially has never worn high heels (and she has to wear seriously high heels to make up for the fact that she is maybe 4'9" tall [her height has been listed as between 4'8" and 4'10"].)

I think it is more her body type. She has no waist and I don't think she ever has.

I'm inclined to agree with Christie...I haven't seen her on DWTS but I would imagine the typical outfits wouldn't be very flattering on her body. Not that she's chunky, it's just not right for her.

Sunflower and Christie, you are both right. Johnson has a gymnast's body. What Saucy calls 'chunky" is pure muscle, which is what the outfits show.

If you ever took your head out of your ass, you would know that I have had that particular avatar for several weeks now. (please note that there is no stupid smiley used to mitigate my comment)

Most people who watch sports, especially gymnastics, know that the girls diets are tightly controlled, to ensure that they stay small and underdeveloped. This applies to athletes from all sorts of countries. No one is born with that body shape. It is artificial and induced, and obvious that she is no longer on that strict regime.

Clearly, you are the one with her head where the sun never shines. Really, you want to try to lecture me about sports? You simply look foolish.

As far as "no one is ever born with that body shape", you have no clue. In fact, I have a little girl sleeping upstairs who has exactly that body type. 2nd percentile height, 39th percentile weight. Very little "baby fat" on her. Since she was 3-4 years old, we were told that she had an ideal body for gymnastics, similar to Retton or Johnson.

More to the point, if you look at pictures of Johnson from last year and this year, you will see very little difference. She was built like a brick house then, and she still is. I do not understand how you think that she suddenly is packing on the pounds.

Oh good lord shut up.

Seriously, you're starting a major fight about a gymnast's body mass index.

Even if Saucy was insulting her, WGAS?! Is it really worth sniping at each other like a couple of high schoolers?

If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it.

Well, I was a bit surprised by the results...
Spoiler
The two lowest-scoring couples participated in a dance-off to determine which one would be eliminated. To my surprise, Stevo was not one of the two, despite the fact that they were judged on their dress rehearsal, which was admittedly not the best. Instead it was Belinda Carlisle who had to go toe-to-toe with Steve Wozniak. elwing suggested that Stevo got the "Jackass" vote; I put it down more to a sympathy vote. As for Wozniak, I believe that there is a sinister conspiracy involved here - I hear rumors that every iPhone in America is secretly programmed to call DWTS and vote for Wozniak.

She's not 'chunky' - she has a very powerful, solid, gymnast's body. It (all 4'9" of it) doesn't look good in cutout costumes. I guarantee you, she hasn't 'let herself go.'

Picture from 2008 just before the Olympics when she was presumably in top shape.

Recent DWTS related shot that is presumably more recent.

Here’s Shawn leaving her first DWTS rehearsal in LA yesterday.

I don't know if she is more chunky now or not. Perhaps a bit in the face. I will leave that to the ladies to debate...

But she looks and dances with the athletic skill to suggest she is still in pretty good shape! She also looks like she could crack walnuts with her checks and I ain't talkin' about the ones in the pictures...

It's a totally different angle so it's hard to compare. If I tilt my head wrong in a photo, I look like I have a double chin. But I don't. I don't think she's gaining any weight and if she did - seriously, it's less than 5 or 10 pounds. Not enough to warrant all this discussion. She doesn't need to sign up for the Biggest Loser anytime soon. Geez.

I think the concern is over her future Olympic hopes - 5 or 10 pounds isn't much, but it can certainly be an issue for a gymnast or other athlete.

To me, the only real difference in the pictures is she's managed to lose the fake orange "tan"!

I think she'll be okay. I don't think her Olympic hopes are in jeopardy right now due to her weight. Is she even still on that track? I haven't kept up with that after the Olympics ended.

I don't know about her plans currently, but I thought that she had mentioned something about coming back in 2012 shortly after the Beijing Olympics. I think the "chubbiness" may be due to camera angles and the outfits she's having to wear.
