Major-General Antonin Petrak, who has died aged 96, escaped to Britain after the Nazi invasion of his native Czechoslovakia; he subsequently won the Military Cross and served with the SOE on the plot to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich. On his return home, however, he was hounded for decades by the communist regime, which regarded such patriotism as a threat.

RIP Major-General Antonin Petrak
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

It would make a great movie as long as Tom Cruise wasn't in it.themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:Major-General Antonin Petrak, who has died aged 96, escaped to Britain after the Nazi invasion of his native Czechoslovakia; he subsequently won the Military Cross and served with the SOE on the plot to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich.
