I'm spending my birthday with two very important people

I turn 22 on Tuesday. Before that, tomorrow (Saturday) my girlfriend Jessica is throwing me a birthday party and after 10 months of knowing his parents, I'll finally get to meet my 8-year old hero, Cody. Cody was born with cerebral palsy and diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at 3 and a half.

I've been asking around, and here's what I have for him:

What's coming soon:
Something from WWE, News 12 Connecticut and COX Radio

What he's getting tomorrow:

- A shirt from Garden Catering, a local fried chicken place who is helping raise money for his camp
- A T-Shirt and two honorary diplomas - one with today's date, and a LIFETIME Diploma from my old high school.
- A scrapbook filled with celebrity autographs from the likes of Bob Barker, Monty Hall, President Jimmy Carter, Supermodel Heidi Klum, Comedian Will Ferrell and others. But the one he'll really love is tucked into the back and just came today - his favorite movie is CARS, and Larry The Cable Guy sent me an 8x10 of him as "Mater" which reads - "Cody: You're My Best Friend! Later, Mater"

I'll be sure to post pictures and/or an account of the meeting.

I'll write later since I'm spending a few minutes with Jess. Here are the photos from my camera phone.

Yesterday, I met "my kid" Cody for the first time after knowing his family for 10 months. We met at my girlfriend Jessica's house, and she threw me a birthday party. Needless to say, it was a very moving experience - Cody is a ball of energy, a little dynamo, and he couldn't stop hugging me. When we went outside - 3 times - He wanted to push Jessica's chair, but her chair is a power chair, so he opted to push mine and subsequently bump me into anything in sight for fun. He really had a ball, and his parents (and he) were shocked by the gifts they received from me. The scrapbook of celebrity autographs, including "Mater" from "Cars" (Larry The Cable Guy) was the highlight - he couldn't stop flipping through the book - but I also got him T-Shirts from a few places and 2 honorary diplomas from my high school, one making him a lifetime member. I attempted to call Tony Orlando, but he was busy, so I called Russ and Giovanna's voice mail and WWOR My 9 in NYC instead. I made sure Cody said hi and that he loved both of them. This is a day I will never forget. To everybody who has played a role in helping me help Cody, however big or small - THANK YOU from the bottom of all of our hearts.

With love,
James

Great story, James! Cody is lucky to be your friend, but I suspect that you are lucky to have Cody and Jess in your life, too. (She is adorable!)

I hope your birthdays bring many happy returns.
