Taping my J! watch
I see from their bored that the Boston audition invites have started to go out. April 21st is the audition date, which would be okay with me. I've been overlooked so far. The only J! e-mail I got today was the notice about the TOC.
Am I taping my watch futilely? Do all the invitation e-mails go out the same day, or over several days? Inquiring minds want to know.
Today's Final J! had a really well-written clue. You could get to the answer from about four different directions. Unfortunately, I didn't know any of them. They definitely ratchet up the overall question difficulty for the TOC. My "Huh?" percentage was way up from the regular shows.

Re: Taping my J! watch
The invitations don't all go out on the same day. Even if the first wave is sent at the same time, they fill in later for those who decline or don't respond at all. Someone here got an invite to an audition I declined last year because I had already been on the show (I had not gotten the Call when I took the online test). So, don't give up yet!

Only the 3rd-place contestant got it. I thought that even with the four different directions you mention, it was one you either know or don't (i.e., you've either heard of the character or you haven't -- I have, so I got it immediately.) One of the contestants, the eventual winner, in factToday's Final J! had a really well-written clue. You could get to the answer from about four different directions. Still taping. I also can't find evidence of more than one person on the J! bored who has been contacted. That seems odd. You would think that there would be quite a few reports there by now.

gs, I just checked my Jeopardy correspondence, and I have to tell you that I wasn't contacted for either of my auditions (2006 Philly and 2008 D.C.) until a little more than a month before the dates.
2006, audition May 23, first email contact April 17. 2008, audition July 29, first email June 19. This is only March 12 -- early days yet!

I've generally heard it translated as "All-Tongue" -- singular, not plural! All-Tongue as in "all talk, loudmouth, blowhard, windbag, bullshitter......"
All tongues, OTOH, makes me think of someone who speaks lots of languages -- a polyglot! So, "Omniglot" wasn't a bad guess.

Are you taping the show or tapping your watch? Are you taping the watch on your hand or another kind of watch? At first I thought it was a spelling error, but you repeated in another post that you were taping your watch.

One of the quirks of this Bored is how mistyping can create a whole language of it's own.
A Bb was getting impatient and typed that they were 'Taping my watch' waiting for a post. Pretty sure it was a Bored Game that was expected.
Vague answer, I know but I really need to get a notebook!

So? They're million-dollar questions on 'BAM, too. "How far is it to the sun?" isn't exactly rocket science. (No, wait, bad analogy ...)MarleysGh0st wrote:Well, it is the Tournament of Champions!gsabc wrote:Do they save these toughies for the tournaments deliberately?
'BAM does have some well-written questions, where there are multiple ways to get to the right answer, even if you don't know it outright. Questions of that type, however, are few and far between, even at high levels. Granted, the J! writers are allowed more information in their clues than the 'BAM writers are allowed in their questions. Still, IMO the best 'BAM questions are the ones where even if you don't know the answer directly, you may know related facts which can lead you to it from another direction.

I may be wrong, as I was around when the phrase appeared, but I don't remember the original post/thread. I always thought he was "taping his watch" waiting for a callback after a successful Round 2 phone game. Those completing Round 2 successfully would be on pins and needles for about 3 hours the next day, waiting for a call.SportsFan68 wrote:It was Ace.christie1111 wrote:Well, I am here so I will explain but someone else (lb likely) will have to say who was the originator of the typo. I'm going to steal Marley's grumble on that - I used the 'traditional' meaning of 'traditional' to assume that a traditional Quebec dish had to be date back to a long standing tradition which caused me to eliminate the correct answer, because I assumed a dish with french fries would be modern or contempory and not classified as traditional. French Fries flashed in my mind as the answer because I thought of the movie Diner where they ate FF with Gravy all the time - but since I didn't know, I decided to analyze the question for additional 'hints' and picked up on the word traditional thinking that it was there to help - I suspect that at the higher level questions on BAM trying to figure it out from the wording my not be the best strategy.gsabc wrote:So?
