Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 3/11/09

LB was gonna let Governor Blowjob host today's final edition of Wacky Wednesday since he actually once voted for the crooked bastard, but now that Blago's hard at work on that book nobody in their right mind is gonna read, he didn't have the time to compose a proper LS game. And besides, he was probably just gonna accept bribes for JJC points anyway. You know how he is...

So I was happy to fill in for him and put together this nice little game for you. And it's a matching game too! The following 16 songs can be divided up into 8 pairs based on a common theme! Sounds much better than the all Chicago and Paper Lace game Blowjob was gonna use, huh?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 1 point for each correct matching pair.....

1. Watch the jingle jangle start to chime
Reflections of the music that is mine
When you drop a coin you'll hear it sing

2. Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do

3. There are stars in the southern sky
Southward as you go

4. I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

5. Up every mornin' just to keep a job
I gotta fight my way through the hustling mob
Sounds of the city poundin' in my brain
While another day goes down the drain

6. We are agents of the free
I've had my fun and now its time to
Serve your conscience overseas (over me, not over me)
Coming in fast, over me

7. Maybe tomorrow when He looks down
Every green field and every town
All of His children every nation
There'll be peace and good brotherhood

8. I'll be your baby
I'll be your score
I'll run the gun for you
And so much more

9. She knows (she knows)
There'll always be a special place in my heart for her
She knows, she knows, she knows
Yeah, she knows (she knows)
No matter how far apart we are
She knows, I'm always right there beside her

10. Six foot tall
Came without a warning so I had to shoot him dead
He won't come around here anymore
Come around here? I don't think so

11. I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away

12. Love you every day, girl
always on my mind
One thing I can say, girl
love you all the time

13. Should have taken warning it's just
People mourning
Running, hiding, lost
You can't find, find a place to go

14. I can hear your music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me you don't even know me
I love you

15. Actin' funny but I don't know why
'scuse me while I kiss the sky

16. When I was a young boy I wanted to sail 'round the world
That's the life for me, living on the sea
Spirit of a sailor circumnavigates the globe
The lust of a pioneer will acknowledge no frontier

Thank you! (because you know I'm too lazy to look up something myself, but I might read it if somebody provides a link, ha!) Now I can stop thinking it's something along the lines of The Accused every time DCN posts.

At your service....

I mentioned when Marley questioned why I created the MM in the first place last summer that DCN's pool ads were among my favorite politcal ads ever. Definitely memorable....

And I had forgotten she ran against Blago buddy Roland Burris in the gubernatorial primary that year. I always played the DCN MM ragging on Blago schtick for the heck of it, but maybe there's something to it after all.....

Edited to say please disregard this post. It's nothing but the original message. I've done this twice now, and don't know why or how. My answers are next in thread. I did have the foresight to Edit|Copy them before pushing the submit button.

3.
4. Paint it Black, the Rolling Stones
5. Five OClock World, the Vogues
6.

Colors and numbers. Perhaps the colors of the rainbow, with white and black tacked on either end? I wish I could remember the order. Of course this rules out my guesses for #2 and 8, but I'll let them stand in case the theme guess is wrong.

Blanket WAG 7 Spanish Angels for the remaining even ones and 4 Strong Winds for the remaining odd ones.

For the pairings I'll try:
1-5
2-3
4-12
6-16
7-10
8-9
11-14
15-16

how do they match?
Matching game - let's see, there are songs with colors in the title (1, 4, 7 and 15) and songs with numbers in the title (3, 5, 11, 12 and 14), but deuce it all I don't know how they relate.

Member who smoked Crystal Meth last night: "Hey for this video lets' put naked ladies, murders, blood and American flags!!"

Band Member who's so high on 420 he thinks he's British: "Bloody Hell Yeah!!!"
(End Scene)

Also how are we not allowed to leave American flags out in the rain or burn them but they can feature prominently in this wholesome video??? Our country is weird.

So the theme is pool. Fun fact: I play pool left-handed even though I'm a righty because the person that taught me was a lefty. (I know it really wasn't that fun. I don't care.) And the groups are thus:

The One Ball is yellow so the pair would be 2 and let's go with 16
The Two Ball is Blue so we'll say 7 and 1
The Three is Red I believe so we'll guess 5 and 14
The Four is Purple so it's 8 and 15
The Five is Orange so it's 6 and 10
The Six is Green so we'll say 13 and 11
The Seven is Brown so 3 for sure and 9 is left
And The Eight is Black so it's 12 and 4

Good game LB. Notice how it's good because I got it. It wouldn't be otherwise...

I find it interesting that most people think maroon is brown.

After noticing this, I seemed to recall that we had a similar discussion on the actual colour of billiard balls (the 7 in particular) and it might have been the same time as the nine ball discussion. Sure enough....

2. Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do
BASED ON THE THEME I'M SAYING YELLOW BY COLDPLAY

3. There are stars in the southern sky
Southward as you go
SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD - THE EAGLES. REMEMBER WHEN THE EAGLE WAS A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH AND, YOU KNOW, AMERICA? NOW LOOK AT THEM. WHEN I THINK OF EAGLES I THINK SUCKY COUNTRY-ROCK BAND AND FOOTBALL TEAM THAT WILL NEVER WIN THE SUPER BOWL.

4. I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
PAINT IT BLACK - THE ROLLING STONES I WILL NEVER SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THE ROLLING STONES. I AM PRETENDING THAT NOTHING POST-1984 ACTUALLY HAPPENED HERE.

5. Up every mornin' just to keep a job
I gotta fight my way through the hustling mob
Sounds of the city poundin' in my brain

6. We are agents of the free

Serve your conscience overseas (over me, not over me)
Coming in fast, over me
ORANGE CRUSH - R.E.M. REMEMBER WHEN R.E.M. WAS THE BEST BAND ON THE PLANET? THIS ALBUM HAD SOME GREAT SONGS (LIKE THIS ONE) BUT IT ALSO HAD STAND. WHICH MARKED THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THAT ERA.

7. Maybe tomorrow when He looks down
Every green field and every town
All of His children every nation
There'll be peace and good brotherhood
CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION - TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS. I THINK A SHONDELL IS A TYPE OF MUSHROOM OR TRUFFLE OR SOMETHING.

8. I'll be your baby
I'll be your score
I'll run the gun for you
And so much more
I'LL TUMBLE 4 YA - CULTURE CLUB. WELL, WHEN I THINK OF A CULTURE CLUB, THIS ISN'T THAT FAR FROM WHAT I THINK OF. THIS SONG TITLE ALWAYS MAKES ME THINK THEY WANTED TO BE PRINCE.

9. She knows (she knows)
There'll always be a special place in my heart for her
She knows, she knows, she knows
Yeah, she knows (she knows)
No matter how far apart we are
She knows, I'm always right there beside her
TWO HEARTS - ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE OLD BOARD WAS HOW "PHIL COLLINS" WAS CENSORED

Come around here? I don't think so
WHADDA YOU, SOME KIND OF MAROON - BUGS BUNNY

11. I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
STILL THE ONE - ORLEANS. I'VE NEVER BEEN TO FRANCE. BUT I DO THINK IT'S FUN TO PICTURE JOAN OF ARC SINGING A CHEESY-ASS SONG LIKE THIS. I REMEMBER A COMMERCIAL FROM ABC TV (MUST HAVE BEEN THE 70S) WITH THIS SONG PLAYING. THERE WAS ALSO A HOT AIR BALLOON.

12. Love you every day, girl

love you all the time
EIGHT DAYS A WEEK - THE BEATLES. NOTHING MUCH TO SAY HERE.

13. Should have taken warning it's just
People mourning
Running, hiding, lost
You can't find, find a place to go
REALLY? PEOPLE MOURNING? I DON'T THINK I EVER KNEW THAT - I ALWAYS SANG "BEBOP MORNING" BUT I KNEW THAT WAS WRONG.
RED SKIES - THE FIXX I MENTIONED YESTERDAY THAT MY FIRST CONCERT WAS SUPERTRAMP, BUT THE FIXX WAS THE OPENING ACT, SO TECHNICALLY THE FIXX IS THE FIRST BAND I EVER SAW IN CONCERT. LATER I SAW THEM OPEN FOR THE MOODY BLUES. I STILL LIKE ABOUT A DOZEN OF THEIR SONGS. SOMETIMES THIS IS MY FAVORITE.

14. I can hear your music playin'
I can feel your body swayin'
One floor below me you don't even know me
I love you
KNOCK THREE TIMES - DAWN A SONG ABOUT A BOOTY CALL BY A DISHWASHING DETERGENT. GOTTA LOVE IT

15. Actin' funny but I don't know why
'scuse me while I kiss the sky
PURPLE HAZE - JIMI HENDRIX
WHEN I WAS A COLLEGE DJ WE HAD A RECORD BY SOME BAND NAMED ELVIS HITLER. THE ONLY LISTENABLE SONG ON IT WAS "GREEN HAZE" WHICH WAS THE WORDS TO THE THEME FROM GREEN ACRES TO THE TUNE OF PURPLE HAZE. IT WORKED SURPRISINGLY WELL

16. When I was a young boy I wanted to sail 'round the world
That's the life for me, living on the sea
Spirit of a sailor circumnavigates the globe
The lust of a pioneer will acknowledge no frontier
WAS IT YOU I WAS TALKING TO ABOUT THE FINNS? RECENTLY I WAS TALKING TO SOMEONE ABOUT HOW I ONLY KNEW THREE SPLIT ENZ SONGS. THIS WASN'T ONE OF THEM. THEY CONVINCED ME TO GET A FEW MORE. SO NOW I KNOW THIS IS SIX MONTHS IN A LEAKY BOAT.

THEME - I'VE GOT A LOT OF COLORS AND A LOT OF NUMBERS. I WAS THINKING THE COLORS WERE GOING TO BE THE COLORS OF THE RAINBOW. BUT BLACK AIN'T THERE. HOW DO NUMBERS MATCH UP WITH COLORS? HOW ABOUT POOL?

ONE BALL IS YELLOW. I POSIT THAT ONE OF THE TWO MISSING SONGS MUST BE A YELLOW SONG. IT'S NOT MELLOW YELLO, AND IT'S NOT TIE A YELLOW RIBBON (DAWN'S TAKEN AND I WOULD KNOW THE LYRICS TO THAT, I THINK). THERE'S A SONG BY COLDPLAY CALLED YELLOW, RIGHT? CAN'T BE #10, THAT'S NOT WUSSIFIED ENOUGH FOR COLDPLAY. SO LET'S PUT IT AT #2 SO 11 AND 2

TWO BALL IS BLUE, RIGHT? 9 AND 7

THREE BALL IS RED, I BELIEVE. 14 AND 13

FOUR BALL IS PURPLE. 8 AND 14

FIVE BALL IS ORANGE. 5 AND 6

SIX BALL IS GREEN. 16 AND 1

SEVEN BALL IS, WELL, MAROON, RIGHT? I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE'S A SONG WITH MAROON IN THE TITLE. MAYBE THE U OF CHICAGO FIGHT SONG? AND IT INVOLVES SHOOTING A SIX FOOT TALL PERSON? WHY THE HELL NOT? NAH. I'VE GOT AN EVEN BETTER IDEA?

EIGHT BALL IS BLACK. 12 AND 4
