A couple of hours ago I was in my car and switched the radio to 790 (a sport's talk-show), and heard them say something like: "Thanks, Steffanie. That's Steffanie Stradley, Texans Chick who [couldn't hear -- somebody talked over it]."

Shoot! I'd have tried to call in. As Skip. (I think "Skippy" would make them suspicious.)

I've been doing a regular gig over at SportsRadio 790 on Mondays at 10:50. Basically doing a game recap.

Today they called me to get my thoughts on this topic:

It's in the news but there aren't too many details in the paper, so I explained what is known publicly, and talked about other cases with similar fact situations.

You know, why would someone at 5PM drive away from getting a speeding ticket when the officer walked somewhere else and get a little less than a mile away?

In my experience, often those situations result from when there is a misunderstanding by the person not knowing that they are supposed to stay there. Like if they thought they were just getting a warning. Or thinking that the police officer left them to go after someone else. (This happened to a friend of mine.)

If you are getting a ticket, you get a ticket.

If you are getting arrested, they can do an inventory search of your car to find anything, or even specks of anything.

By most accounts, Chester Pitts is an intelligent, well-spoken guy. Not someone you would expect to get the police chasing after.

I think the Travis County DA and the Harris County DA are gonna make a deal to have the Texans draft the UT offensive line, and do joint prosecution using the resources of both offices.

As for AB's comment, I've said before that right tackle Eric Winston is well spoken too, even though he resembles a (white) caveman. Maybe that makes me anti-cavemanny. Lots of football players aren't the best communicators in the world. Chester Pitts isn't one of those people.

In any event, my speculation given the fact pattern was correct. It turns out that Pitts is claiming it was a misunderstanding. He says that his father has been a police officer for 30 years, and he has a lot of respect for the work that police officers do.
