Face 2 Face Tour

#1 Post by Ritterskoop » Sat Mar 07, 2009 10:59 pm

Yes, they have both still got it. Billy Joel and Elton John, I mean.

They have not got the highest notes they ever had, but that's why they have backup singers.

Three and a half hours for $60 is a great deal these days.

I was ready to go after Funeral For a Friend, but they insisted on playing a lot more great stuff. I find myself more admiring of Billy Joel's vocals at this stage (his top range has shortened a teeny bit but his lower range is very rich now). I have always admired Elton John's compositions. They are both still topnotch pianists. I would put Ben Folds in their class, though his style is more manic sometimes.

Stuff I found while trying to find out more about one of the drummers....

Singer and keyboardist Taylor Hanson of the sibling trio Hanson is performing in the new band Tinted Windows. The group also includes former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha; Adam Schlesinger, who played with Fountains Of Wayne and Ivy; and Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos. Tinted Windows' debut album will be out on April 21.

And here is the yummy drummer. This photo doesn't do him justice, though he looks pretty good even here.

I won Fleetwood Mac tickets in a drawing at work to entice contributions to Arts and Science Council (funds several local groups from which I benefitted as a kid). I always donate anyway but this year I won the big drawing.

I had to take a day of work for the show late next month, but PAFBoy is coming up from Atlanta to go with me so it will be great.

Sounds intriguing. Love Cheap Trick and FoW, that last Hanson cd was surprisingly good. Not too crazy 'bout the Pumpkins, but that's because I can't stand Billy Corgan's voice. Must remember to keep an ear out for this disc.

Glad you enjoyed the concert. Nancy & I saw 'em in Buffalo a few years back. It is indeed a teriffic show and a tremendous value considering how long theey play and the vast catalog that both guys have to draw from.

A Most Excellent Report.

Fan will have to put in appearance for me too if she goes to the April 4 concert, since I can't make it.
