Some Idol Thoughts 3/5/09

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 9:10 pm

Spoiler
I don't think they needed to even bother with tonight's show. I think they all knew exactly who they were putting through before a note was even sung. Well, at least I was happily wrong about Tatiana making it into the Top 12..er...13. I thought for sure they were gonna go for the ratings gold that the Ultimate DRama Queen (sorry Nathaniel, you're a distant second to THIS wacko) would provide, but thankfully they resisted temptation. Now we're done with her (at least until the finale)..unless they stick her in the audience every week like Can'tStandTine Maroulis.

I called Jasmine and Anoop..Tatiana was my third prediction. Had I known they were going to pick 4 I DEFINITELY would've thought DelToro was in. I am quite happy to be wrong.

As for the performances,..

FROM THE CHRISTINA AGUILERA SCHOOL OF MELISMA:
Matt Giraud "Who's Loving You" and Ricky Braddy "Superstition". Both of these guys hit their notes properly tonight but there were just too damn many of them. Overkill. Still, I think Ricky was robbed so that they could get at least a couple more females in the finals.

EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THESE GALS MADE THE TOP 13:

Jasmine Iforgetherlastname "Reflection" and Meagan Armtattoo "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree". Jasmine didn't need to yell so loudly..My tv is plugged into the stereo so she was plenty loud enough without using her "outdoor voice" and making my cats hide under the couch. Meagan sang from her throat instead of her gut, which is ok if you're a fan of mucus. Wasn't impressed with either one.

NOT BAD BUT WHAT'S YOUR NAME AGAIN: Jessie Langseth "Tell Me Something Good". I wanted to like her because if she made it through I think she'd choose a lot of cool songs like this one. She just didn't nail it enough to create a lasting impression.

HATE THE SONG, LIKE THE PERFORMANCE: Anoop Desai "My Perogative". He was kinda fun, even if I don't like this song. Not perfect, but good.

THANKS FOR PLAYING, WE HAVE SOME LOVELY PARTING GIFTS: Jimmy Neutron..er....Von Smith "Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word". Sorry doesn't begin to cover the restitution we deserve for having to sit through this one. The opening was more agonizing than having to listen to one of Paula's muddled "we saw the essence of you soaring high and free tonight" speeches. It got a little better after that, but the damage had already been done. Like Freddy Kruger offering you a bandaid after opening up your jugular.

A LEAGUE OF HER OWN: Tatiana Del Toro "Saving All My Love For You". Words cannot describe, so... :?   :x   :?: :?: :?: :!:

Jasmine has done absolutely nothing to convince me that she should be in the Top 13. Matt is ok, but should ease up on the melisma. Meagan has dropped in my approval rating with each week, and Anoop was a decent choice because my granddaughter loves him and maybe he will take her mind off the Jonas Brothers for 3 minutes..

Spoiler
I watched thinking it would be Anoop and two of the girls because they did not want an 8-4 gender ratio in favor of the guys. Then Matt performed so well that they couldn't leave him home. They still couldn't go ahead with only four girls, nor could they eliminate Matt or Anoop, so they made a last-minute decision to expand the top 12 to top 13. I'd have said screw the gender ratio and cut Megan.

I agree it was an hour-long charade. I had told Mini-me who was going to go through when the show was starting, and to be prepared for a twist.

I didn't agree at all with their female choices, but I saw it coming a mile away.
Huh? What?

I almost wish they hadn't brought Tatiana back, as she is so emotional that it almost seemed cruel tonight to get her hopes up again.

I was out last night. I dvr'd it. I watched this morning. They went over the hour. I saw the Megan/Tatianna thing. They go to commercial and the recording stopped.

So, they went with 4 instead of 3.

I was worried when Simon said the word "casting" and thought - NO!!!!!

Thank goodness they did not want a drama queen in the cast.

it almost seemed cruel tonight
American Idol cruel
Didn't they originate televising people who can't carry a tune because they dress up like contestants for Monty Hall's Let's Make a Deal. I can hear Nigel "Next auditioner is anyone with a can of chewing tobacco in their pocket".
Haven't they brought us two people standing awaiting their fate and then Ryan says "After the break".
Haven't they brought us the walk of fame/shame up the elevator to that lonely chair and the tease before saying you are in.

Seemed cruel, they wrote the book on cruel.

I think from the "clues" offered by the judges after their respective songs, there was little doubt as to whom they were going to select. I picked Megan, Jasmine and Anoop. Lady G said it would be Megan, Jasmine and Matt. Did Tatiana think that by singing that song for a third time, the judges would be impressed? I think they like Megan because she was different. Kinda like Blake from a couple of seasons ago. I think her tattoo "sleeve" looks kind of odd on her.

I think the early favorites have to be Lil and Adam. Although, I wonder if Lil will suffer the same fate as Melinda Doolittle did. And, I wonder if Adam will be another Daughtry. It will be interesting to see who "grows up" during the series. On the surface, this seems to be one of the best groups they have had thus far. The competition could get fierce.

I didn't even watch the show but I am glad to hear that Jasmine made it through. They had a nice article on her in the paper down here and she seems like a very likeable person.
