It's time for my annual journey into the wonder that is Mecca Radio, or as we like to call it down at the Home Office, The Audio Torture Network. And for your listening pleasure, 12 of the finest songs we play over and over and over and over again, just for our one million slav.... er, associates worldwide.

Mecca radio was a bit different this year, as LB noticed. Back in May, we experimented with silencing the overhead muzak during operating hours, so the only thing that could be heard anymore was the overnight and morning shows. Of course, we had to get rid of this so we could play our 24 hour Christmas music beginning brigth and early on midnight November 1st. And now.... well, Mecca Radio has reverted back to its good old days of all the same stuff all the time. We don't even take requests anymore...

One cool thing about this game for those who love bonus points. LB, being the oddball he is, noticed that during that May-October stretch where there was no overhead radio before midnight we would play one song at 11 PM every night, then go back to dead air for another hour.... and furthermore, he noticed over time that there was a certain song played for each day of the week. LB was quickly able to figure out which song was played on the 5 nights he works (Friday through Tuesday), and his co-workers, who are used to dealing with his crippling mental disabilities, were able to give him the Wednesday night song. All 6 of those songs are among the 12 below, and you can earn bonus points if you can manage to identify the 6 nightly songs by their designated night of the week. Heck, even if you put the wrong day next to one of the 6 nightly songs, you'll still get a point.... so unless you are the worst guesser in the entire world, you should earn a few bonus points just by randomly assigning a day of the week to 6 of the songs below.....

Remember, when identifying the nightly songs, that you are to use each day of the week except Thursday, and you may guess at the songs even if you don't know them....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 1 point for identifying one of the 6 nightly songs with an incorrect day, and 3 points for identifying one of the nightly songs with the correct day....

1. My heart is old, it holds my memories
My body burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again

2. I don't know where
I don't know how
I don't know when
But I'll tell you right now

3. I wear tight clothing and high heel shoes
That doesn't make me a prostitute
I like rap music, wear hip hop clothes
That doesn't mean that I'm sellin' dope

4. Sitting on the doorstep of the house I can't afford
I can feel you there
Thinking of a reason, well, it's really not very hard
to love you even though you nearly lost my heart

5. You've been up all night
Thinking it was over
He's been out of sight
At least for the moment

6. The way that you touched me made me believe
You never love any other the way that you loved me
When you said forever I thought it was true
We'd be together our whole lives through
Well, I got to hand it to you

7. You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
And the tears you had to cry
You're my life..

8. I can't get out of bed today
Or get you off my mind
I just can't seem to find a way
To leave the love behind

9. Flower’s bloomin’, mornin’ dew
And the beauty seems to say
It’s a pleasure when you treasure
All that’s new and true and gay

10. Take a step back and see the little people
They might be young, but they're the ones that make the big people big
So listen as they whisper:

11. Rich man grew old, owned a mansion on top of the hill
Now he's sitting at the table with his lawyer
Goin' over his will 'cause he's Ill
The kids don't call, they're waitin' for the man to die

12. Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Now
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go

I should play as Deaf Mini
'Cause I ain't hearing these. Wow.

1. My heart is old, it holds my memories
My body burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again

Kyrie Eleison, Mr. Mister

2. I don't know where
I don't know how
I don't know when
But I'll tell you right now

This could be like any song written in the last 50 years with such generic lyrics...

3. I wear tight clothing and high heel shoes
That doesn't make me a prostitute
I like rap music, wear hip hop clothes
That doesn't mean that I'm sellin' dope

Free Your Mind, En Vogue. I love this one.

4. Sitting on the doorstep of the house I can't afford
I can feel you there
Thinking of a reason, well, it's really not very hard
to love you even though you nearly lost my heart

Semi-familiar

5. You've been up all night
Thinking it was over
He's been out of sight
At least for the moment

Nope

6. The way that you touched me made me believe
You never love any other the way that you loved me
When you said forever I thought it was true
We'd be together our whole lives through
Well, I got to hand it to you

Nope

7. You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
And the tears you had to cry
You're my life..

Gah. It's a Bee Gees song. One of the slow ones and they all sound alike to me. Call it Roundabout. :P

8. I can't get out of bed today
Or get you off my mind
I just can't seem to find a way
To leave the love behind

Nope

9. Flower’s bloomin’, mornin’ dew
And the beauty seems to say
It’s a pleasure when you treasure
All that’s new and true and gay

Nope

10. Take a step back and see the little people
They might be young, but they're the ones that make the big people big
So listen as they whisper:

Nope

11. Rich man grew old, owned a mansion on top of the hill
Now he's sitting at the table with his lawyer
Goin' over his will 'cause he's Ill
The kids don't call, they're waitin' for the man to die

Nope

12. Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Now
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go

Ha! Welcome to Boomtown Rats Hell! I know this is a nightly song. It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time, but I've only heard it sung by the dancing banana cartoon.

I'll put #12 in for Friday. I don't have enough information or energy to match the rest up, so I'll pick 1, 3, and 7 as nightly songs, too. Add #6 and #9 from my birthdate chart, and those are all the nightly songs.

They are playing one of the nightly songs on VH1C right now, and my pitiful mind had an instant flashback to its day of the week.....

I am a hopeless case....

Not as hopeless as my score will be. I checked some of the lyrics and I still don't know the songs. That's pretty bad there. Expect a bunch of low scores or attendance posts for this game....

I was expecting that. Lots of people bombed Squiggly's game last year too, and the songs were nowhere near as obscure last year....

The shame is, with one OBVIOUS exception, I like most of the songs I used in today's game.....

Yes, they are blind guesses. There's really no way for anyone to figure them out for themselves unless they made a routine of hanging around Mecca at 11:00 for most of last year...

And BTW.... You nailed 2 on the nose! The first one to hit even one bullseye thus far....

Gimme A Squiggly wrote:It's time for my annual journey into the wonder that is Mecca Radio, or as we like to call it down at the Home Office, The Audio Torture Network.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 1 point for identifying one of the 6 nightly songs with an incorrect day, and 3 points for identifying one of the nightly songs with the correct day....

where's my baseball bat?
Mecca Radio is whack. I was going to just peg the songs I knew with days so as not to have to decide, but I didn't even know enough of them to do that!

So nobody works on Thursdays who will indulge your sick fantasies by taking notes of every song played to see which one keeps recurring? Is it maddening to you that you don't have ALL THE DAYS?

1. My heart is old, it holds my memories
My body burns a gemlike flame

First off, I would like to profusely apologize to everyone for subjecting them to this game.....

1. My heart is old, it holds my memories
My body burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again
Kyrie - Mister Mister - The SUNDAY night song

2. I don't know where
I don't know how
I don't know when
But I'll tell you right now
One of These Days - Santana (I actually hinted at this song in the answers to Squiggly's game in last year's LS....)

3. I wear tight clothing and high heel shoes
That doesn't make me a prostitute
I like rap music, wear hip hop clothes
That doesn't mean that I'm sellin' dope
Free Your Mind - En Vogue (Now that we are in infinite Mecca Radio loop hell, this song now plays every Friday night as I stroll in the door a few minutes before 10:00.... right before the real Friday night song....)

4. Sitting on the doorstep of the house I can't afford
I can feel you there
Thinking of a reason, well, it's really not very hard
to love you even though you nearly lost my heart
Valotte - Julian Lennon - The WEDNESDAY night song (I wouldn't have minded hearing this one once a week, because I like it.... but not enough to come in and work Wedensday nights....)

5. You've been up all night
Thinking it was over
He's been out of sight
At least for the moment
The House of Love - Amy Grant (Mecca Radio absolutely LOVES Amy Grant for some reason, as this, "Good For Me", her cover of "Big Yellow Taxi", and a favorite of mine "Every Heartbeat" are all regularly played.....)

6. The way that you touched me made me believe
You never love any other the way that you loved me
When you said forever I thought it was true
We'd be together our whole lives through
Well, I got to hand it to you
You Really Had Me Going - Holly Dunn - The MONDAY night song (This one's kinda fun and I like it even though it's country....)

7. You and me girl got a highway to the sky
We can turn away from the night and day
And the tears you had to cry
You're my life..
Too Much Heaven - The Bee Gees - The SATURDAY night song (Probably my least favrote Bee Gees song, and Mecca radio has further ruined it for me by playing it early on every Saturday night. Even if I'm at home listening to it on Music Choice, as soon as I hear those first few notes of this song, I automatically get depressed and begin thinking it's another rough Saturday night at work....)

8. I can't get out of bed today
Or get you off my mind
I just can't seem to find a way
To leave the love behind
Stuck - Stacie Orrico (Nice little ditty that is now played twice during the 1:00 hour early every Saturday morning.... yes, I said twice in the same hour.....)

9. Flower’s bloomin’, mornin’ dew
And the beauty seems to say
It’s a pleasure when you treasure
All that’s new and true and gay
Glow of Love - Change with Luther Vandross (This one was mainly from last year's rotation, but another overplayed song I grew attached to)

10. Take a step back and see the little people
They might be young, but they're the ones that make the big people big
So listen as they whisper:
What About Me? - Moving Pictures - The TUESDAY night song (This song for whatever reason seems to have faded into obscurity, but it's always been one of my favorites....)

11. Rich man grew old, owned a mansion on top of the hill
Now he's sitting at the table with his lawyer
Goin' over his will 'cause he's Ill
The kids don't call, they're waitin' for the man to die
This Thing Called Wantin' and Havin' It All - Sawyer Brown - The FRIDAY night song (Talk about a song that grew on me.... I had the damnest time trying to hear enough of the lyrics to this one to find out what the song was due to how soft it's played. But this is now one of the highlights of going back to work on Friday night is hearing this one. And a bit of info I picked up back when I was scouring Google to find this song last summer.... Sawyer Brown won Star Search's grand prize back in 1984.... you may thank me one of these days for that bit of trivia....)

12. Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Where ya at?
Now
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go
There ya go
It's Peanut Butter and Jelly Time - The Buckwheat Boys (And some goddamn dancing banana I hear. This song was requested practically every night last year, and may be the reason the request show was recently pulled off of Mecca Radio.... at least I hope it was....)

JJC Points:

mini gets a JJC point for mocking my hatred of that ^#@& PBJ song....

TLITF gets a JJC point for "The your ass will follow"... which may be how I start singing that one everytime it comes on from now on....

ghost gets a JJC point for her theme song being played everytime she ventures into Mecca....

Clem is back, and so is his supermax of 5 JJC's....

TBone was given ample opportunity to strut out the humor answers, and gets 3 JJC points...

Panic got 2 JJC points for damn near hitting the lottery! His first 5 picks of the nightly songs were all wrong. Had his last choice hit #3 instead of 7, I'd have give him full credit for the game... seriously!

Fanny gets 2 JJC points with a baseball bat.....
