I've been sitting on this long enough.

#1 Post by nitrah55 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:06 am

I'm producing a movie.

It is a film version of a one-act play I wrote a few years ago as sort of an observance of my 50th birthday. To give you an idea of how ambitious I am, the play got produced about a month after my 51st birthday. It is a re-telling of the parable of the prodigal son, done as a contemporary murder mystery.

A friend of one of the actors likes to make short films; he will direct. We will shoot sometime in May or June, take a couple of months for editing, and then work the festival circuit. What with digital technology, movies cost less to shoot than they used to. This one will involve one interior location (a church, specifically, a church sanctuary), two actors and night shooting, all of which keep costs down. I am fortunate in this economy to actually have some money coming in, thanks to the settling of my mom's estate, so I thought it would be appropriate to lay out some in this project.

If nothing else, this will be fun.
I am about 25% sure of this.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

In case you haven't been paying attention, :) I have tons of experience with "film" making.

I can give you titles of several good books as well as offering myself as a resource.

I hope there are no Christian Bale "moments" on your set. If so, I hope you and the director lay down the law...

Sounds like an awesome plan! I hope it goes well.

Let me know if you need a church to film in and don't mind the trek to Maryland.

My first thought on seeing the subject line was, "What, your ass?"

But seriously, this sounds really exciting. Good luck with it.

I was expecting a reference to last night's episode of The Big Bang Theory. But this is way cool, too. Good luck, and enjoy! --Bob
