A Game For Today, direct from Paris.

Sorry about missing FNGD last night.

In return, then, a game for today, taken directly from yesterday's "Des Chiffres et Des Lettres" as broadcast on TV-5, the Francophone cultural channel, which emphasizes French from France stuff.

The game was on at 2AM, when I awoke from my beauty sleep, because it had been preempted earlier by the Cesars, the French version of the Oscars - a much better show, as they still buy the old-fashioned hokum, long gone from the American one , which cannot avoid being mostly a three-hour infomercial.

SO: the challenge is to find two words, French ones to be sure, at least according to Bertrand the word maven acceptably so. Two words, or names, which together make up nine letters. (NB for a number of reasons including the modern French penchant for borrowing Anglicisms, these clues I am posting will in fact be OK for you guys..)

( Before posting the actual clues, let me give an illustrative example., we know the French love rock and roll, so if the clue hinted towards the names of rock stars from Britain, and the "tirage" of letters was:

ONNIGJHRO, it would be solved as JOHN and RINGO.)

( 1 ) - First clue and selection of letters, from a "telespectatrice" in Normandy:

Town in Normandy, and an often-associated food: TCNEEAIRP

( 2 ) - Second clue and selection of letters, source missed by me, as I watched.

Communication in our time: FGLRMBOOU.

Once one sees the answer, it all makes perfect sense.

Probably Einstein said that too.

NB one small step: Bertrand is actually the math maven, and Ariel reads and does most of the word stuff, but Bertrand has the biggest dictionary.

I could probably spoilerize Uly's answer, but I'm not sure the board reached a consensus on whether that is an acceptable thing for a moderator to do.

There are some things I just love about Ed.

That is for sure.

Thanks Pea, but next time, could you put that in a spoiler?

Are you implying that it is easy to spoil Ed? The next thing you know you'll be bringing him his slippers and some hot cocoa.

Those are two of my favorite things! I get bunches of slippers, slipper socks, and cocoa as gifts!

Can I get in on some of Ed's action, cocoa-wise? My slippers are already on my feet....

Sure! Just make it, like, something I'd actually understand, and we're golden....

Our local Catholic church has plans to bring their parishioners to services by bus. They plan to call it mass transit.

The pirate captain was standing in his treasure pile.
He didn't have very much: his booty was only shin-deep.

As Reynoldo lit the votive candle at the grotto for San Jose de los Platanos, and prayed for the healthy delivery of his first child, he heard a disembodied voice say, "Your daughter will be born 17 inches long,"
To which Reynoldo replied, "Do you know the weight, too, San Jose?
