Tried using a "green" dishwashing detergent today

Other than the film it left on everything and the totally crappy job it did--it was great.

If the greensters out there want us to use this stuff--it would be nice if it worked.

What brand did you use? I have been using one for about 3 months now, I think it's Palmolive but I'm not sure. It's in a white bottle and I use the green apple scent. It cleans just as well as the other stuff, although I do still keep the jet dry dispenser full.

I did try the Clorox green multipurpose and toilet cleaners, and didn't like them at all. The cleaner might be okay but the smell is so awful. And things just don't feel clean to me unless I can smell the serious smell of a good old fashioned Lysol antibacterial cleaner!

The green dishwashing detergents have been largely disasters. We have a brand called "Simplicity" that's all organic, which Mecca really tried to push last year, but we still have massive quantities of it left over from when it came in last Spring. We also have the Clorox Green Works dish detergent, whose sales have been really lukewarm. I think when it comes to cleaning products, most people don't really care if what they usually use poisons the earth as long as it does the job.....

We never use the stuff anymore.

I checked the bottle - I have Palmolive eco. I got it at Mecca, and it seems to be a good seller, there are always only a couple with a lot of empty space (or maybe they just don't stock a lot). It is comparably priced to regular (might even be a little cheaper) and as I said earlier, cleans just as well.

I care that other cleaning products poison the earth, but I need a green alternative to actually clean something. The Clorox Green Works stuff I bought didn't do the job. If they come out with a better alternative, I will try it!!

Ah, I was stuck thinking of actual dish detergent, not the stuff for the machines....



They sell just as well as the old Palmolive did, but considering the fact that they took the place of the old detergents and weren't just offered as an alternative, customers really didn't have much of a choice without changing brands. Of course, considering that this was just a conversion from old bottles to the new Green bottles (I even think the UPC codes for the old and Eco were the same), I seriously wonder whether the formula is any different....

I use lemon-scent Cascade liquid. It comes in a green bottle. Does that count?

My dishes have to be squeaky-clean. Rain Man inspects everything for microscopic particles. Most of the time, he rejects all dishes for very un-environmental paper plates and plastic forks.

He just takes what he's given in restaurants, though. I guess I give his OCD free rein at home. Oh, well.

I still use the atomic bomb in a gel for my dishwasher. Nothing beats Cascade Complete.

Screw the environment, I want clean dishes.

That's what we use.

We have very hard water in our area. It's either Cascade Complete or nothing.

Even with that and Jet Dry, every now and then I have to put vinegar in the dishwasher to get the buildup out.
