Robert Morganthau has announced he is not running for re-election as Manhattan DA. He is 89 years old and has been Manhattan DA since 1975. His father was Henry Morganthau, FDR's Secretary of the Treasury.

I have always taken some amusement watching the turnover of DAs on Law and Order, given that the real DA has been well ensconsed since the Ford Administration.

Fred Dalton Thompson, former presidential candidate, is once again a fictional NYC official. In ABC's "Life on Mars", set in the 1970s, he's "Chief of Ds". Did they really use that nickname in the 70s? I never heard it until recently. At any rate, you can see it was only a matter of time until he entered the political ring & got Jack McCoy's boss's job, on that other network, for a while.
