craigslist amuses me

We're going through an aggressive decluttering phase. And we're like Syms - we offer stuff for what we think it's worth, some of it sells, we reduce the price on the rest, then lather, rinse repeat. Some of the stuff we eventually give away for free. The following item got a response at $10 but didn't manage to sell, then no responses at $8, $5, $4, $3, $2, $1. Today it's free, and I've gotten 60 emails in less than an hour. People are funny. Is this stuff REALLY that much better free than it is if it costs $1?

They might search for only free things, so they never saw it when it was $1.

I know you're right. But it still amuses me. I bet YOU would pay $1 for those things.

I would probably pay way more than $1 for those things. Thank goodness I did not know they were for sale.

From the listing:

"BUT these bad boys work with wine, too.
And pretty much any other liquid that won't corrode its way through and leak out the bottom.
Don't put Dick Cheney's blood in here."

(Bolding added)

Now that's funny.

And to anticipate Flybrick's question . . .

I don't know why he didn't mention Biden's blood as well. Must be a hypocrite.

No one has yet told me that Vikings didn't drink from metal goblets or anything like that (who knows, maybe they did). Highlights from some of the responses so far:

Nothing would make my day more than free viking goblets!!

hey, I live in roger's park, i would love your goblets, they look extraordinary. I will be willing to pick them up tonight, or as soon as you would like, I wont jerk you around. those cups look badass

I want the goblets! I do not drink dick cheneys blood!

I live in rogers park and am a wine fan so would be interested in these thanks (I think these things are cool. I regret using them only a few times in the 7 years I've had them. But I have trouble envisioning a serious wine enthusiast using them)

(After I told someone that someone else said she was on the way to pick them up but that I would let him know if it fell through:)appreciate it diffenty send me a message if she doesnt show up. thanks

Hi! I'm designing a set for a low budget (but quite excellent) play, and these goblets would be perfect! It's XXXXXX and I have just passed on the information to our props person. Hopefully, someone will contact you right away to pick them up. Thank you for your help, in advance!

(Another response to my telling someone that the wine "glasses" are promised but I'm trying to sell / give away other things too:)You've got a lot of net stuff, & what I don't give to friends or take to area shelters, I save for the charities doing yard sales in the better weather (& I may do myself, if you want to hold on a bit). (If you can tell me what this means, I'd be very appreciative)

You may prefer the term "goblet".
I won't stop you.
"Chalice" seems a bit much to me.

Drink like a Viking.
Well, without the looting, burning, pillaging, conquering England, etc.
I mean, conquer England if you want, but at your own risk.

And good luck finding mead.

BUT these bad boys work with wine, too.
And pretty much any other liquid that won't corrode its way through and leak out the bottom.
Don't put Dick Cheney's blood in here.

They make great ringing sounds when you clink them.

You might want to know what metal they're made out of. I have not a clue. Possibly stainless steel. Probably not platinum.

If you're good at polishing up metal, I bet they polish up nice.

Set of 8.

One exception to the "free" bit:
the guy who jerked me around for a week,
always saying he was coming to get them
in the next day or so.
For you,
they're $20.

Feh! You think any self-respecting Viking would drink from one of those goblets?

Now this is a Viking drinking horn:

Skoll!

Farwell (which is the street between Morse and Pratt) and Ashland.
This is my second tour of duty in RP. In 1993-94 I lived on Greenleaf between Sheridan and the El. So if that's when you lived at Estes & Sheridan, we were very close neighbors.

When, Lily? I lived in the building on the SE corner of Sheridan & Greenleaf from 1974-1976 and in the next building south from 1980-1990.

Other abodes:
1970-1974: Loyola Campus
1976-1980: Pratt E of Sheridan
1990-1992: Fargo E of Sheridan

I had a friend and a girlfriend in 1997-1998 who both lived on Fargo east of Sheridan. She lived in the 12-flat right on the southeast corner, he lived in the really tall building a little further east on the south side of the street. he said it (the building, not his apartment) used to be owned by al capone. I mean, everyone says that about every building in rogers park, but he seemed more certain than most.

That's the building I lived in! I was told it was built as a hotel in 1929, when Rogers Park was a hot vacation destination. I never heard the Al Capone part. Everyone in our part of NW Indiana knows someone who knew someone whose uncle had an encounter with Al Capone while was living in his vacation hideout here.

Is the Tally Ho still in existence over on Howard Street?
