I am home again today. With no advance warning, the DPW has apparently decided to work on the street installation of the sewer lines. There is no running water in our house. No shower. No washing of face. No flushing of toilets. Joy.

Your co-workers thank you for staying home.

Time to crack open an ice cold Pepsi....

If you have any water in the house, I believe you can flush the toilet if you pour water down in them while holding down the lever, can't you?

That still sucks though. I'd probably go to work because we have showers here!

You don't even have to hold the lever down...just pour water into the toilet and it will flush.

All the lever does is open the plug to pour water from the tank into the toilet bowl.

Yes, it flushes. Once. There is no water to refill the tank.

The doctor told me that Percoset causes constipation. He told me to take Colace three times a day. You do the math.

Our water pressure has returned. I have taken my shower. I feel better, hygiene-wise. The ribs, not so much.

Found a note from GW. The water went off at 6:50 AM. While she was brushing her teeth. I wonder how many of my neighbors got caught halfway through their shower at 6:50 AM. Stoopid timing.

Yay for the return of the water.

Now take it easy and try not to laugh or shout at the television or do anything that will irritate those ribs.

We had a water main break once when I was in the shower. It was not pleasant to have the water shut off unexpectedly.

If there are trucks are still in the street, I would fill a bath tub up while the water is still on.

Just in case.

At the Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival, back when it still had that name in days of yore, I was stepping into the shower stall in the shower truck when the shower truck shower-runner decided a hurricane was coming through & they were going to get the truck out of there. Fortunately, they warned all us shower-takers before they took off. Also fortunately, I was not yet covered with soap &/or shampoo. Nor even more than slightly wet yet, as the water was usually very cold, with the occasional lukewarm spurts for which I waited. Unfortunately, I was naked (I can't help myself; its the way I usually shower).

Even more unfortunately, the woman & child in the next shower stall were already covered with soap & shampoo, & already wet, & of course equally naked as me. They had to walk their wet, shampooey, soapy selves, with clothes thrown on over the slime in the heat, back up the hill, presumably to the drinking-water trucks, which would supply enough water for them to bucket-rinse themselves off while others averted their eyes (or not, as the case may be).

And it turned out the worst of the winds, not hurricane strength but pretty strong, had already been through (& knocked down lots of tents).

I wasn't able to attend the next year, but when I did next attend, a different company was running the showers.
