Some more Oscar trivia

Who is the only actor never to get a nomination while alive but was to receive all of their multiple best actor nominations posthumously (more than 1 nomination and not in the same year)?

I'm thinking of an actor who had important supporting roles in 3 films in one year in which all three films were nominated for best picture (note - he appeared in more films than just 3 that year, but 3 of them were Best Picture nominees). Although only nominated in one of the 3 films in the supporting role category - he did win for that role. In one of the other pictures he appeared in - 2 of his co-stars where also nominated for best supporting actor nominations. If he was nominated in the 3rd best picture he appeared in that year, that picture would have had nominees in all 4 acting categories, to go along with many of its other record setting accomplishments. Can you name this actor?

This actor appeared in multiple movies (more than 3), and every single movie that he appeared in was nominated for Best Picture. Can you name him?

You are correct.
Spoiler
All six of his films--"Dog Day Afternoon", "The Conversation", "The Deer Hunter", and all three "Godfather" films--were Best Picture nominees. Three of them won. The interesting thing about "The Godfather Part III" is that Cazale died 22 years before it was filmed.

We have our winners - all correct.

Both
Spoiler
Thomas Mitchell
and
Spoiler
John Cazale
were two of a number of my favoriate actors - that is they are in the set of actors that no matter what film they are in and regardless of the quality of the movie - I always enjoy their performances. Oliver Platt falls into that group as well as numerous others.

Another bit of trivia about
Spoiler
John Cazale
, who was his Significant Other at the time of his death?

Who is another actor has had major roles in 3 Best Picture nominees in the same year and was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in one of them but unlike Mitchell he didn't win?

What is interesting to me is that when Thomas Mitchell was in the Best Picture nominees - there were 10 nominees, but now there are only 5 - so
Spoiler
John C. Reilly's
accomplishment is a little more impressive.

Here's one:

A number of actors have received Oscar nominations in consecutive films. But what performer received nominations in consecutive films that were made fifteen years apart?

And one more:

Whose only Oscar nomination is generally credited for the creation of the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories?

My guess is Franchot Tone, who competed for Best Actor along with Gable and Laughton in Mutiny on the Bounty, the year before supporting awards were introduced.[/i].

You didn't. I did. And you should be permanently disqualified from answering any Oscar questions here because you know all the answers.

In that case, let me ask a question:

Who are the only two people ever to receive acting nominations five years in a row?

Greer Garson and Bette Davis are correct!

Al Pacino and Thelma Ritter were each nominated in four consecutive years.

I think we're running out of Oscar trivia, but let's try this one:

During only three Oscar ceremonies has six different films won the top six awards (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director). Can you name the three years, and the six films from each year that each won one of the top six awards?
