WWTBAM Bored

To be honest, I've felt a little disingenuous in recent days when I've posted somewhere (mostly here) with this handle, because I've hardly played the tuba in years. In fact, I haven't played on a regular basis since early 1999 (before the Bored even existed.) In the last 4-5 years especially, the extent to which I've been neglecting my poor old tuba reached a level that the old band nerd (and erstwhile music major) in me never could have imagined.

Today, however, I rediscovered what it was like to be "tubadave" again.

At Southwest, there's a small group of employees who all play brass instruments, and they sometimes gather together to play at various company events, especially when Christmas is near. One of those players just happens to be one of my supervisors (and was also in the UT-Arlington marching band with me in 1995, though we didn't really know each other) so I was recruited immediately. Today was the first of four rehearsals for a Christmas program that's taking place on the 13th of next month. I think that might have been the fastest 60 minutes I've ever had at work, lol. It felt like I had found a part of myself that I had almost forgotten ever existed.

I'll probably never again play like I used to, but I need to make sure I drag "tubadave" out of the shadows now and then because, as I found out today, I kinda missed him.

I know how you feel. I haven't had a piano for 25 years. We bought one in June. Of course, I had absolutely no music (I can't play without music).
My sister in Louisville teaches piano. Last week she sent me 3 books, about my level. One of them is Christmas songs.

I've really enjoyed being able to sit down at the piano once or twice a day and play. I'm actually getting a little better. I do sing in a civic chorale, but I see now I have missed not being able to play the piano all these years.

Does this mean we get more trivia questions about Tuba Christmas...?
