Obama to announce Iraq withdrawal
The United States will withdraw most of its troops from Iraq by August 2010, 19 months after President Barack Obama's inauguration day, according to administration officials who expect Obama to make the announcement this week.

And expect him to leave himself humongous amounts of wiggle room to let himself off the hook.
You see how his concern for human rights as far as the Gitmo detainees and re-assessing Bush information gathering policies is going, don't you?

Maybe tonight! I won't hear it until later, I'll be kicking butt at bridge.
Early reports say probably not, but I can hope.

Why does he feel an announcement is necessary or even a good idea?
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Because it is something he can say he's done, even though he hasn't done anything, but still he can say he's done it and guess what? No issues with the IRS either!themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:Why does he feel an announcement is necessary or even a good idea?

30- to 50,000 is a residual force. 50,000 in Afghanistan will end terrorism as we know it.

His policy sounds remarkably similiar to, I don't know, the previous guy's.
While I don't fault President Obama for modifying his position when it comes to the lives of our troops, I am wondering if the faithful, to include most of the media, are starting to question their faith.

Very difficult to end a protracted engagement on a convenient schedule.
But it sure sounds nice as a campaign promise.

It's especially difficult to end such a protracted engagement when you have no real motivation to do so (other than as a campaign promise) and no real idea how to do so.Jeemie wrote:He's finding out what Nixon and Eisenhower found out before him.
