Articles about two upcoming SyndieBAM contestants

Hey, gsabc and ghostjmf--TPTB know where Massachusetts is! Mary Flaherty, from Gloucester, enters the Hot Seat today.

The inspiration to try out for the show came after she noticed "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" on television as she was getting her nails done recently. Prior to that time, she didn't know the show — one of her favorites — was still on the air.

The 48-year-old Flaherty confesses to having a brain full of "useless trivia," and had loved playing along from her living room when the show was hosted by Regis Philbin and aired in prime time, but never tried out because she didn't think she'd pass the "fastest finger" challenge. The fastest-finger questions were once how a number of finalists landed in the "hot seat." Would-be contestants would have to be the first person to correctly place a series of items in the correct order in an allotted time; Flaherty doubted her ability to qualify that way and was relieved to hear the new version of the show did away with that feature.

"Now, it's really easy," Flaherty said. "You go on their Web site and ask for an audition, go to New York City and pass a test, then they interview you and if approved you do an on-camera interview and from there you are selected."
Now, it's really easy!?

Also today, we see Chris Boney, from Wilmington, NC, who got to the Hot Seat by winning a sweepstakes after downloading the mobile edition of WWTBAM to his cell phone. Another chance to see how someone does without passing a written test or an interview!

If Mary does badly, I'll go pick up ghostie and we'll take a road trip to Gloucester to beat her up. :)

If the sweepstakes winner does badly, we should hold another Jipterfest to go and beat HIM up. OTOH, if he does well, we should congratulate him profusely in the hope that TPTB will have more sweepstakes, or better yet another trivia-based contest, to get onto the show.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

There have been other Mass contestants on.

Isn't, for instance, Oggie (Ogas) from one of the local schools?

just sayin'.

Yes, certainly. Ogi lives in Boston.

My comment was more for gsabc, who is always frustrated that TPTB can never find New England on a map, when it comes time for planning their road trip auditions.

They have been here on road trips. At least 2 of them. I know, because I was at both. And I didn't even pass at the most recent one! The only 2 times of their many tests I've taken that I've flunked were Baltimore, &, gasp, Boston!

Lotta good it did me.

There was one scheduled for some date just after 9/11/01. They had scheduled it way before 9/11/01. Road trip didn't happen, at least not on the appointed date.
